Arran Primary Schools - Active Schools

Arran Primary Schools (Active Schools)

2023-02-16  •  No comments  •  NACAdmin  •  Official position 1  •  Arran

The primary schools across the Isle of Arran provide a variety of lunchtime and after school clubs for all pupils across the island. Therefore, sports equipment is used frequently within timetabled classes, as well as the extra-curricular opportunities provided to pupils. To provide the young people on the island with beneficial physical activity experiences, we feel it's important that the equipment used is safe and reliable. In return, this will positively impact our young people's mental and physical health and wellbeing, whilst increasing confidence and communication skills, as well as giving the young people an opportunity to socialise with peers.

Amount Requested: £1000

Our project will consist of hiring a professional grade 1 instructor to come to our meeting nights in the 10 week run up to competition season. As well as training the main band, they will also do sessions with beginners and intermediate players to gain an insight into professional pipe band playing. This experience will be beneficial for socially disadvantaged players who would not be able to afford an experience like this otherwise. There are also well known benefits to playing a music instrument for mental health and wellbeing.

We would like to create a safe, warm environment in the clubhouse, for members ,and their friends, (not necessarily members), to meet, especially those who no longer golf. We wish to provide a space where, particularly, those who feel isolated may visit for social interaction and activities. This facility will support mental health wellbeing and reduce loneliness for many. Following the easing of Covid restrictions, we kept the clubhouse open, in all weathers, as a meeting place. This is popular. To enhance our project we would like to purchase a tea and coffee making machine, digital radio and putting mats
