Irvine Pipe Band
Investment project code: 131
Summary
Description
Our project will consist of hiring a professional grade 1 instructor to come to our meeting nights in the 10 week run up to competition season. As well as training the main band, they will also do sessions with beginners and intermediate players to gain an insight into professional pipe band playing. This experience will be beneficial for socially disadvantaged players who would not be able to afford an experience like this otherwise. There are also well known benefits to playing a music instrument for mental health and wellbeing.
Funds requested: £400
£20 per night, 2 nights a week for 10 weeks (20 x 2 x 10 = 400)
Location: Irvine
Proposed on behalf of: The professional grade 1 piper has offered their services to the band at a discounted price and this allows us to offer the tutoring for free to any young people who come to the band practice nights. There are some New Scots in the band as well as people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds who really benefit from taking part in the Scottish Music community. We also have some people in the band who suffer form PTSD as well as other mental health conditions, and they gain real benefit from playing in the band and often report improved mental health as a result of playing a music instrument and the camaraderie of the band.
