Arran Primary Schools (Active Schools)
Investment project code: 169
Summary
Description
The primary schools across the Isle of Arran provide a variety of lunchtime and after school clubs for all pupils across the island. Therefore, sports equipment is used frequently within timetabled classes, as well as the extra-curricular opportunities provided to pupils. To provide the young people on the island with beneficial physical activity experiences, we feel it's important that the equipment used is safe and reliable. In return, this will positively impact our young people's mental and physical health and wellbeing, whilst increasing confidence and communication skills, as well as giving the young people an opportunity to socialise with peers.
Amount Requested: £1000
£400 - Equipment £400 - Travel £200 - Island based events
Location: Active Schools, Lamlash Primary
Proposed on behalf of: Our young people within all 7 primary schools on Arran require a larger range of equipment to accommodate the variety of needs and wants within their schools. Throughout the winter months it can be challenging to attend mainland events due to poor weather conditions, boats times etc. A way to work around this is hosting island based primary school events to ensure pupils still get the opportunity to participate in competition throughout the year. Therefore, it is vital that the school has enough quality equipment for competitions, as well as for weekly extra-curricular clubs (lunchtime and after school) and classes (during the day). In the spring/summer months it becomes easier to compete at regional/national events for the primary pupils on the island, although the cost of travel is a barrier for parents/carers. If we were successful in gaining the grant it would eliminate this barrier, making competition an opportunity for young person on the island providing travel at a free/discounted rate.
