We will organise art/craft sessions for adults and hold Tea Dances for our older community members in the regenerated Town Hall. This will bring people together to connect with each other, learn new skills and stay active.   As we want to make sure everyone can participate in the activities, regardless of ability to pay, we will use the money to cover the room let fees for these events.

In June 2022, LCC set up a sub group "Access to Food" Terms of Reference is to " Assist local groups to maintain/expand services providing food to people in need Outreached to local groups and formed a working relationship with Largs Naz (Largs Church of the Nazarene) who in conjunction with additional support have established a range of activities centred around providing food in a dignified and person centred manner.

Continue improving local life and well-being of the community by extending the range of our activities and by being able to cover the travelling costs of off island speakers to our monthly meetings. Extending our activities by promoting civic pride and active citizenship by adopting a flower bed in the town and participating in a beach clean with the Field Studies Centre. Reduce social isolation by funding an off island bus trip for members Continue developing skills and intergenerational activities by our Handiwives group continuing to support pupils of Cumbrae Primary School

Dementia Friendly Largs

We would like to purchase 8 Robotic pets ( dogs or cats) to distribute to people living at home with Dementia. Research and anecdotal evidence show that robotic pets helps people living with Dementia on multiple levels. 1 A reduction in anxiety, agitation, stress, and depression and an enhanced sense of wellbeing  2 Improved social interaction and communication with family /caregivers. 3 The ability to self-soothe with a safe activity that does not require close supervision. 4 The resurrection of happy memories of former beloved pets, or other times that gave them pleasures  5 Reduction in the need for anti-psychotic medication.

Largs Church of the Nazarene

In addition to the current cookery classes we provide, we would like to add a monthly class teaching people how to budget, and prepare meals that are cooked in a slow-cooker. Those involved would be provided with a slow-cooker and all ingredients. Each class will include the preparation of meals that can be frozen and cooked at home. The featured recipes will be served during the class for all involved to taste. All classes will offer both hands-on participation, and also provide a warm space for those who prefer to watch and learn and taste the dishes featured.

We are located next to stage 12 of the Ayrshire Coastal Path above the Meigle at Skelmorlie and some 3 miles North of Largs. The path is a single council maintained tarmac road. The project is to provide free use of our toilet facility and hot/cold drinks to any person be it individual, family or organised group as a means of promoting an active life style using this path for physical exercise, improvement in mental health and appreciation of the stunning coastal and hill scenery. We are open on Sundays from April to September 2023 other days/times by special request.

Largs Community Council

In Town Environment Group A) Enhance existing Community Garden (corner of Gogoside Road / Irvine Road) purchasing additional summer plants and Seasonal Event Features which have been enormous success in past year (Easter Bunny, Halloween Witch, Christmas Tree with Frosty the Snowman) With Larger Christmas tree and lighting feature as well as additions ie Santa's Sleigh and Reindeer   B) Litter Campaign (phase 2) Phase1 now complete with over half the Town's shops displaying "Emoji" circular litter poster (circa 40 posters left for distribution April'23) as well as 2No 1.0m dia signs within Largs Academy refectory. Phase 2 production of 10-12 Large Scale posters for distribution at highly visible locations throughout Largs : entrance to School Campus, public parks, Vikingar, Barrfields and Prom (relevant consents being attained with assistance from NAC)
