Summary

Description

In addition to the current cookery classes we provide, we would like to add a monthly class teaching people how to budget, and prepare meals that are cooked in a slow-cooker. Those involved would be provided with a slow-cooker and all ingredients. Each class will include the preparation of meals that can be frozen and cooked at home. The featured recipes will be served during the class for all involved to taste. All classes will offer both hands-on participation, and also provide a warm space for those who prefer to watch and learn and taste the dishes featured.

Amount requested: £1,000

Slow-cookers - £350 Food and Ingredients - £275 Packaging and food containers - £135 Fuel for the portable gas cookers (used during 4 classes) - £90 Office materials/Promotion (ink, paper, printing costs) - £150 Total:£1000

Location: Largs

Proposed on behalf of: We are a religious organisation. Outwith our mid-week and Sunday worship, we provide local community building programmes including: Common Ground, a warm space each week on Thursdays that provides a space for fellowship and food - we also serve a buffet dinner from 4:30-5:30 (£2 suggested donation for adults & kids eat free). Takeaway Homemade, free cookery classes for adults and kids twice a month on Saturdays. Souper Awesome Storytime, on Wednesdays from 5-6pm families with young children are invited to attend and have soup, listen to a story and engage in a fun activity. Throughout the Covid lockdown, we provided 10,000 healthy meals to those living in the community of Largs by partnering with the local foodbank, the Resilience Team, and the North Ayrshire Council. We also provided free Christmas Day and New Years Day meals this year, serving over 100 people who may have otherwise spent the holidays alone.Over the past three months, we have seen that our cookery workshops have not only provided a space for people to learn how to cook healthy meals, and become more confident in the kitchen but they have also provided an opportunity for people to find warm community and fellowship. Our cookery workshops provide a safe place where people (who might otherwise feel uncomfortable going out to other public places) feel comfortable attending. The slow-cooker courses would be monthly and would be in addition to our current Takeaway Homemade cookery courses. Slow cookers are an inexpensive way to cook healthy meals. With this class, we hope to provide those attending with a slow-cooker (if needed), the ingredients, the help to prepare those ingredients as well as the guidance and encouragement to do so.
