Would miss out on attending tuesday knitting group. This group is well attended on a Tuesday & Friday. Sad to see Tuesday (fortnightly) book bug group no longer available. This too was well attended hope it can be made available to users on another day.
Dreghorn library is a handy location with good parking facilities. The staff are very welcoming and as always happy to help with any enquiry or request. My children feel happy and confident to access the library independently and they would not be able to do this in another library. I do not feel that we would use the library service as frequently if Dreghorn library was not open. I know that a range of other groups, including local schools, use the library in Dreghorn, and this would not be able to happen if the library was closed, and the next closest library would be too difficult to access.
I do not see a problem with myself but it may affect others as it would appear that one of the proposed days for closure i.e. Tuesday appears to be as I previously stated one of the busiest days of the week for issues and footfall. In addition after the closure of the Library in Bourtreehill neighbours of myself are now faced with a walk/drive to Dreghorn and in some cases due to poor mobility have to rely on getting to Irvine Library by bus. When I look at the pay structure of North Ayrshire and the renumeration paid to at least seven Execs is in excess of 100K surely they could look at reduction or pay freeze and use the money to fund the Libraries and other worthy Local amenities.

Finally , residents were concerned about the reduction in library staffing, and the impacts that local job losses would have in the community, particularly as this was not proposed outcome of the previous budget engagement around library services in 2024/5. For these reasons, we are opposed to the proposed reduction in hours, and urge that any revisions to the proposals be done with the aim of increasing or retaining the current hours and with these impacts in mind.
2. Representatives from the local knitting group highlighted that their meetings will be disrupted by the proposed reduction in hours as they currently meet on Tuesday & Fridays. Many of the members are older women who are vulnerable & use the group for social contact to combat loneliness. 3. As well as the impact of losing a space for socialising and support for older people in the community, locals highlighted the impact on local children – the library regularly hosts school visits during the week that will be impossible to accommodate in just 2 days open, and many local children attend the library after school & will be left without somewhere safe & accessible to go in the local area for more than half the week.
At our recent meeting in June, Dreghorn Community Council consulted with residents & local groups present to gather the impact of proposed reduction in hours at Dreghorn Library. Those present identified the following impacts, which we are sharing on behalf of Dreghorn Community Council. 1. Residents were keen to point out that the library serves a wide local area including Springside, Drybridge & Bourtreehill after closure of the library there. The prohibitive cost of travel from the village to Irvine will make library facilities inaccessible to many in the area for most of the week.
When I first moved to Dreghorn I went to the library to find out what was on, that is when I joined the knitting group. The library offered my granddaughter a placement for her Duke of Edinburgh. It saves lives, it’s escapism. You’re glad to get out of the house. Something different to talk about and share with your family. It’s nice to talk about things that you have nobody else to talk to about. Our knitting is displayed in the library. Being retired and being on your own, you have got to be active and have a routine. Need to do something or you would shrink into a shell. One group member is comfortable with keyholding. The group asked if they would be charged for keyholding.

I work full time and my shifts can be until 8pm during the week and some Saturday's. I don't think I would be able to visit Dreghorn library at all.
