Kilwinning Academy Parent Council

2023-09-10  •  No comments  •  Kilwinning Academy Parent Council  •  Kilwinning

Kilwinning Academy Parent Council is a very active and supportive group of parents who work together to ensure young poeple are able to access the range of educational and wellbeing opportunities provided by the school or other services.

As a group we meet once a month with the Head Teacher to find ways to address any issues raised by parents but also to promote the fantastic progress and achievements many young people have made.

Part of our focus is on finding ways to support learning and teaching which will support raising attainment and an outcome, but more recenlty we are very aware of the growing concerns parents have over the Mental Health and Wellbeing of pupils at the school and in the community.  As a group we have apporached the school to find ways to support groups of young people who may be struggling with their mental health and wellbeing resulting in those been identified as struggling to reach their potential.    One distinct group we wish to help on this occasion is the growing concerns over young male pupils who are struggling to engage in their learning and are unwilling to accept the usual supports offered by the school.

As parents we agree that one of the best ways to engage young males is through providing high quality sport and fitness activities delivered by specialists out with the school environment.  So as a group we have identified a Kilwinning company, "BetterU Fitness" who have a number of highly trained professionals with a range of experience of supporting young people.  Our application for funding would cover the costs and activities provided by the BetterU Fitness staff.  The plan would be for a targeted group of young male pupils, identified by the school, to participate in an eight-week programme delivered during school time at the BetterU Fitness unit at the Nethermains Industrustlal Estate.

Discussion with the school has resulted a shared understanding that the intended benefits of this project to those involved would out way any time lost to lessons due to concerns over their engagement in school.  Following this discussion, the school is very keen to monitor the scucess of this project and will commit to funding another group if this project provides to be a success.

BetterU Provision provide for the £997.88 bid

  • Fully qualified coach for session delivery 2 sessions per week for up to 8 weeks
  • Facilties and all required equipment
  • Planning and delivery of sessions in line with age and stage of development
  • Focus on supporting participant's fitness and mental health and wellbeing
  • Personal clothing item for each participant

Outcome

It is hoped that by the end of the 8-week programme the participants will be fitter, be more willing to discuss the support required to reach their full potential at school and feel more positive about their own mental health and wellbeing.

Extended Pathway and disabled ramp access

2023-09-13  •  No comments  •  Irvine Cricket Club  •  Irvine

Our car park is hardcore and is regularly flooding and is very uneven. Families use this car park to attend cricket matches and training nights. To make it easier for access to our grounds we are looking to extend a current pathway that starts at our building deep into the existing car park area in order for families to reverse park cars and remove wheelchairs , prams from car boots etc and have an easier walk and far safer entrance into our area. It will also means everyone arrives dry and clean which makes it easier as well. We will also be building a ramp access into our changing rooms and toilet area for families and wheelchair users to access without having to go across to our main sports club building. The cost will be £1850 for the ramp, pathway construction including materials and labour. We have £1000 raised towards this project and would like to apply for £850.

West Kilbride Primary Parent Council Uniform Shop

2023-09-11  •  No comments  •  Emma Clark  •  North Coast

This is a Community ran FREE pre-loved uniform shop for all those attending West Kilbride Primary School.

Our aim is to help anyone needing access to free school uniforms, no questions asked.

A huge benefit of using pre loved clothes is that you are helping the environment. Children grow so fast that there is a high turnover of school uniforms with some having to be replaced with a bigger size at the start of each term! By donating or using the pre-loved facility you are helping the environment.

Donations of clean, good condition school uniforms, shoes, trainers, wellies, school-bags & jackets are currently accepted however a lot of the time we don't have sizes/items requested and we would love to be able to help anyone that approaches us for help with primary school uniform. All donations are washed and ironed before being sent out if they are not brand new.

All enquiries are treated in the strictest confidence so people can be confident that their enquiry or request will be kept confidential.

We looking to find new items including underwear, pants, socks and tights. Along with warm winter jackets/waterproof shoes/boots as we enter the winter season.

We estimate £1000 would give us a great basis to work from and enable us to restock throughout the next year when we hold our pop up shops at parents nights at the school.

The cost of living Crisis is still greatly affecting local families and this helps parents and carers ease their financial worries over clothing their children for school.

Ardrossan Parent Council

2023-09-04  •  No comments  •  Ardrossan Parent Council  •  Three Towns

Our Transition Programme is split into 3.

  1. Good Start Gift Bags
  2. Potted Sports Event
  3. Transition Disco

The Parent Council aims to support all children transitioning from primary school into Ardrossan Academy, we work in close partnership with the school to enhance opportunities for our young people. Last year the newly appointed Parent Council recognised the struggles of the cost of the school day following covid and the current cost of living crisis, the is where the idea for the 'Good Start Gift Bag' came from. It ensured equality across the whole of the year group as all pupils were issued with the Bag containing school essentials.

The bag itself is a drawstring PE kit bag,it contains a pencil case with pens, pencils, ruler, rubber, sharpener and highlighter, a reusable tub for HE lessons, a scientific calculator and a Spanish dictionary. The cost per bag is £15. The bag is gifted in May/June 2024.

The potted sports event takes place in the astro area of Ardrossan Academy, this event promotes team building and developing friendships. The children are split into their "house" which allows them to meet peers from other primary schools prior to attending classes with them. The cost of this event is £600, this covers the cost of equipment and refreshments on the day. This event takes place in May/June 2024.

The transition disco allows the children to meet in a much more relaxed environment and gives them another opportunity to meet the pupils the will be in classes with. The costs included in this event are dj hire and refreshments which are approximately £600. The transition disco will be in June 2024.

The estimated cost of the entire transition project is approximately £3000, depending on where we can source the best price for the items we require for the bags. We hope to recieve the full £1000 available from this application and will hold other fundraising events.

To fund our production, we would kindly ask for:

  • Licence to hire show - £500
  • Digital Projection Licence - £360
  • 20 Actor scripts - £140

This would enable us to pay for the full script and musical score for our production. We would then be able to provide every pupil involved with their own Actors script to work from during rehearsals.

Arran Junior Football

2023-09-14  •  No comments  •  Isle of Arran Sports Clubs  •  Arran

3 teams from the Isle of Arran will travel to the mainland to compete in 3 different competitive tournaments. Young people from Arran rarely get the opportunity to play competitive sport, down to the lack of teams on the Isle of Arran, as well as the challenges around travel. We’re thrilled to be able to offer this to over 50 young people on the island.

To be able to do this, we’d need financial support for the following –

Transport costs (Bus/Boat) - £250 per match

Referee hire - £50 per match

Equipment (bibs/balls/cones/kit) - £100
