How did you make the decision is it all staff costs. Money not spent in last financial year given to Streetscene which is a shame. Are the hours set in stone, no out for consultation. It's a chicken and egg situation - if it's there it will be used, if not, it can't be used. Will the building by lying empty on days it's closed. - Partners will use it and keyholding. Do you have volunteers that could run it - only computer buddies.
Thursday afternoon suits us well but we will see if we can change the day or we might need to disband. Some of us have other commitments so will not be able to change the day. The group has been running for 10 years. What are the new opening hours, can you give us a run down of them. Alternative days open are confusing. Keyholding is maybe an option but not keen, it comes with a huge responsibility. How would we change our books - staff would leave your new books out. Would we get an induction for the alarms etc. We take things for granted but we can adopt a change and adapt. Why are some branches hours not changing - explained locality set up. It is a shame the hours are being chopped as libraries are important, so many things happen here, it is a hub. It is a much needed resource. Why did you choose a Thursday as the issues on each day are similar. Which hub in each locality is busiest. We will need to check which slots are available on days open.
Overall, the proposed changes would have little impact on me, as I am retired and able to go visit any of our local libraries at whatever day's time is convenient.
I visit the Ardrossan library regularly as it is nearby, not only to borrow books and access information, but the company of other people and brief chats with the library staff are also helpful, especially if health issues limit your ability to travel even locally.
Regular free access to the library is an important local resource. With regard to the proposed changes for Ardrossan, I would suggest opening three days a week by adding either Thursday or Friday as well as Monday and Tuesday. The additional proposed opening hours could be partially offset by the Ardrossan library remaining closed on Wednesday.
As an older woman whose family grew up with public libraries who uses them for both books, source of information as well as access to technology and support, having familiar faces who are accessible and knowledgeable and who understands my disabilities and age is key and a source of support and disability/age related isolation.
I am a regular library user, have been all my life. I visit every month taking out 6 to 8 books at least each month. Richard and his team make you feel so welcome and they do so much for the community with lots of clubs and events throughout each week. Many elderly people would miss this as would the young children (the next generation of readers) Please consider matters carefully and the impact on the community.
The proposed changes are just more erosion of services. What actually does the council tax payments provide for the "normal" person. The library is the hub of the community providing and provides much more than books, computers and community meets.
It would further reduce the flexibility re times and availability to collect/return books +use the facilities. As an avid reader it is hugely importatnt to maintain accessibility and availability of books, especially when considering literacy and numeracy levels of younger people. Everything should be done to increase hours, not decrease them!! Disappointing and typical of inconsiderate council policies and councillors.

Ardrossan is middle ground for other friends with kids coming from Fairlie and West Kilbride whom we meet in the library as well as attend Bookbug and other planned activities. My wee boy has taken a long time building relationships with both Richard and Stacey and feels rel axed and safe as Ardrossan is also smaller than other libraries such as Saltcoats.
More likely to pop into Ardrossan Library when going main shop at Asda. Would not be passing through Stevenston or likely to travel to Stevenston Library on closed days. Closed days would limit our access to the library.
