Celebrating Together – Pennyburn 2025/26

2025-08-30  •  No comments  •  Pennyburn Primary Parent Council  •  Kilwinning

We are applying for £1,000 to fund a year of free school celebrations at Pennyburn Primary. These will include seasonal discos, end-of-term events, community celebrations, and our very popular Santa’s Grotto this year featuring Ayrshire’s Number One Santa, ‘Do You Believe in Santa Claus Ayrshire’.

Pennyburn is one of the most deprived areas in North Ayrshire, with several data zones in the top 20% most deprived in Scotland (SIMD 2020). Many families struggle with the cost of living, and high charges for events can cause stress or lead to children missing out. We want to make sure every child can experience the joy of school celebrations, without any financial barrier for parents.

This project will guarantee that all children can enjoy the same positive, magical experiences with their friends, no matter their background. The funding will cover entertainment, decorations, refreshments, and transport. By removing all costs to families, we will deliver a school year of celebrations, helping reduce inequality, boosting wellbeing and confidence, and strengthening community spirit.

Breakdown of costs:

  • Event entertainment (DJs, Santa’s Grotto, performers, facilitators) – £500

  • Decorations & resources – £200

  • Refreshments & snacks – £200

  • Transport – £100 Total: £1,000

Abbey Primary School Parent Council

2025-09-22  •  No comments  •  Shelley Howe  •  Kilwinning

Abbey Parent Council is organising a fun day for all pupils within school to celebrate the end of the school year. The event will include inflatable activities and other engaging attractions designed to encourage physical activity and bring the school community together in a positive, memorable way.

Last year, the event cost £1,050, primarily for inflatable rentals and staff to ensure the saftey of our children. This funding will help cover similar costs for this year’s event, ensuring it remains accessible and enjoyable for all children within the school day.

Barnardo’s- A thank you to Kinship Carers from young people

2025-09-15  •  No comments  •  Alana Corbett  •  Kilwinning

Barnardo’s North Ayrshire services provide support across North Ayrshire to kinship families. After consultation with our young people, it was evident that they would like to say thank you and “just spend time” with their families. If funding is secured it is hoped that young people can deliver a thank you tea within the community of North Ayrshire for their families. Allowing to bring families together, reduce isolation and create quality time together. As the Kinships families have time to relax, spending time with people in the similar situation to them, building positive relationships and supportive networks together.

A group of 8-10 young people will have consultations together to plan and deliver the afternoon tea to the families, as an appreciation of support. By having the young people participate in the event, this will then include them in the decision-making process, respect the views of the young people and give the young people a voice in every aspect of the event. The main focus is spending time with loved ones and keeping families together without the burden of cost.

The young people want to bake cakes, create invitations, organise venue and entertainment and table decorations. It is hoped £980 would allow around 50 family members to attend the event with the support of the Barnardo’s staff.

DDLS – Breaking Barriers in Competitive Dance

2025-08-30  •  No comments  •  DDLS Fundraising Team  •  Kilwinning

DDLS is a local dance team with over 40 young dancers from across Ayrshire. Competing is an amazing opportunity, but costs stop some children taking part. Your vote will help every dancer shine on stage, no matter their background

The Dance Depot Lyrical Squad (DDLS) is part of Tracy Finlay’s Dance Depot in Kilwinning, an inclusive and welcoming dance school offering children and young people aged 8–18 the chance to develop their creativity, confidence, and wellbeing through dance.

DDLS is the competitive branch of the school, with over 40 local dancers proudly representing Ayrshire and Scotland at both national and international competitions. A highlight of the year is performing at the prestigious Blackpool Winter Gardens competition in March 2026, where dancers showcase the dedication, teamwork, and passion they’ve built throughout the season.

However, participation comes with significant costs—such as entry fees (around £80 per dancer for Blackpool), travel, and costumes—that can prevent some children from accessing these opportunities. Many DDLS families live in areas of high deprivation across Ayrshire (Kilwinning, Irvine, Ardrossan, Saltcoats, Stevenston), where the cost-of-living crisis already makes it difficult to cover extras.

The Youth PB grant of £1,000 would go directly towards covering competition entry fees, ensuring that no dancer is excluded due to financial barriers. This support will help us keep competitive dance open to all young people, no matter their background.

By supporting DDLS, you are helping children and young people to:

  • Gain confidence, resilience, and self-belief by performing at a national level.

  • Build teamwork and discipline through training and shared goals.

  • Experience the pride of representing their community and Scotland on stage.

  • Access opportunities equally, regardless of family income.

This project is not just about dance—it’s about ensuring that every child has the same chance to shine, to belong, and to create lifelong memories through the power of community support.

Breakdown of Costs

  • Competition entry fees (including Blackpool Winter Gardens 2026, £80 per dancer) – £1,000

Expected Outcomes

  • At least 40 young dancers supported to attend competitions without financial barriers.

  • Improved health, wellbeing, and confidence through active participation in dance.

  • Increased equality of opportunity for young people from deprived areas across Ayrshire.

  • Stronger community pride with local dancers representing Ayrshire and Scotland.

Silent disco equipment

2025-09-22  •  No comments  •  weewendywoo2003  •  Kilwinning

We know most people love music but others may find the music at a disco too loud. Silent disco equipment allows users to set volumes and listen to music with a choice of up to three chanels. All age groups can enjoy the fun of a silent disco and this is something we would like to bring to our community. The cost of the equipment is what we are applying to the funding for and we could add on to this at a later date.

Supporting Inclusion Through Sport in Kilwinning

Children from Kilwinning and the wider North Ayrshire area with additional support needs will have the opportunity to benefit from a fully-funded sports camp. The aim of offering this experience free of charge is to remove financial and emotional barriers that may prevent families from exploring new activities. From our experience, many parents may hesitate to commit financially without knowing how their child will adapt to a new environment or sport. By eliminating this cost, we hope to create an inclusive and welcoming space for every child to try something new.

Kilwinning is one of the most economically disadvantaged areas in North Ayrshire, and we recognise the importance of providing accessible opportunities for all. At Kilwinning Community Sports Club, we maintain strong partnerships with local ASN (Additional Support Needs) schools. These connections will be invaluable as we design the camp with expert input and identify participants who will benefit most from the experience.

Together, we aim to create a supportive, inclusive environment where children can build confidence, develop new skills, and feel part of a vibrant community.

Describcription of project

Easter 2026 Inclusive Holiday Camp – Grant Proposal

We’re planning something special for Easter 2026—a free, inclusive, week-long holiday camp for children with additional needs, and we’re seeking funding to help make it happen!

Camp Details: 🗓️ When: Easter Week 2026 ⏰ Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon (Daily) 📍 Where: Kilwinning Community Sports Club – Fenced Astro Turf Pitch (with disabled parking and accessible toilets)

This isn’t just any camp—it’s a space where children who often face barriers to participation can play, learn, and thrive in a safe, supportive environment. Through fun games, movement-based activities, and skill-building exercises, children will be encouraged to explore, connect, and build confidence.

To best meet the needs of our participants, we’ll integrate sensory equipment to help with emotional regulation and ensure every child feels safe and supported. Full risk assessments will be carried out, and the venue’s secure fencing allows us to maintain a safe, enclosed space for everyone.

Why We Need Support

To run this camp successfully—and truly meet the needs of the children—we require additional qualified coaches and support staff who understand inclusive practice and can provide 1:1 or small-group support where needed.

With your help, we can:

  • Create a zero-cost opportunity for families

  • Provide specialist staff to ensure every child gets the attention they need

  • Foster a sense of belonging and fun during the school holidays

  • Support children who may not otherwise have access to inclusive recreational spaces

Together, we can turn a simple week of camp into a lifelong memory for children and families who deserve it most.
