The Parent Council wish to help support the young people with gaining the best experience with all aspects performance of music and drama events within the school but especially the musical shows. The funding we are applying for is to allow the purchase of technical equipment which will enhance the experience of the working within music industry and also be used for other events in Music and Drama throughout the year. 

We are also looking to fund some of the more sustainable aspects of the stage makeup to allow our young people to further develop their skills which they have developed already within school in our Lovilious class.

Dreghorn Parent Council are very keen to enhance and develop additional opportunities and experiences for all the pupils at Dreghorn Primary. 

In March 2025 the school is putting on a performance of Annie this is a fantastic opportunity for all Primary 5 -7 pupils. 

There is always a buzz around school and with auditions and rehersals starting this week,  it's going to be an exciting 6 months. 

Through participation in Annie the children have the opportunity to develop their confidence. They will learn new skills in acting, singing, dancing, production, costume creation, make up and set design. So many options for as many children as possible to be involved in: a huge team effort. 

As they learn new skills they will improve their abilities and belief in themselves, a real chance to help nurture and support the wellbeing of our children. 

When asked about being part of the school show the children were bursting with enthusiasm. We were told " One of my favourite things to do is sing, it makes me feel happy" Another child said " I feel more confident in music and dancing so I am excited to show how good I can be because that doesn't always happen in class." 

Reflecting on a previous show one child remembered " Matilda was so fun and made me feel a real part of the school so I want to take part in the show again." 

We would like that same opportunity for lots of our children. Giving them the chance to fire up their imagination can be crucial in their development. We want to enhance their thinking, playing and learning. 

The £1000 budget will help fund many aspects of the production:  £250 for lighting, £250 for costumes, £250 for set design, and £250 for sound to name but a few of the costs incurred. 

The children are at the heart of the production raising their voices performing to a packed audience over 2 nights. Aswell as the on stage dramatics they will also be involved in advertising and programme production and children will select guests of honour to invite to their show. 

Due to the cost of living crisis many children do not have the same opportunities to attend expensive dance,drama and singing classes out with school. Our statistics show us that currently 71% of pupils in P5-7 reside within Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) levels 1-4. Therefore by supporting the show our aim is regardless of background and financial situation all pupils will have the opportunity to participate. 

We want as many of our children to say 

"The show is a big part of school life and its so fun" Singing and dancing help me feel happy and clear my head. I would love to have a part to build my confidence."

The parent council, have worked closely with the pupils of Lawthorn Primary to discuss the issues surrounding road safety in the local area.  Within the school there are representatives that are Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO) who consult the other young people on issues relating to safe travel in the surrounding community area.  The school has 284 pupils that travel from Girdle Toll area/ Montgomerie Park.  The young people have told us that they feel unsafe when not traveling to school by car.  We have a very small carpark, and surrounding areas has narrow roads where during pick up and drop off both sides of the road are filled with parked cars making it unsafe for young people to cross.   Health and wellbeing is so important for our young people, being able to exercise whilst traveling to and from school safely increases physical health but also wellbeing, being outdoors, meeting friends and traveling together whilst also learning invaluable skills like road safety and independent travel.  The JRSO would also like to do more initiatives from points in the community including walking buses and cycle to school programmes.  Reducing car pick up and drop off also works towards the councils target of tackling climate change and young people leading the way in climate action. The JRSO have asked young people what they would like to see and they have asked for £1268.48 (inclusive of VAT)

This money would buy:

• A banner 8ft x 1ft no parking on zig zags
• ‘No parking’ sign for lamppost 
• 4 parking dummies (2 drop off only, 2 no parking on zig zags)
• Traffic cones no parking x 6
• 2 pavement signs (parking here may endanger your child's life).

These items will:

• Discourage people from parking in the drop off bay and unsafe manoeuvring in the area.
• Remind parents and carers not to park or stop for picks ups keeping the area clear for safe travel in front of the school gates.
• Create safe crossing for children and young people.

The young people involved in the project said “We feel that this would be a great chance for us and the parent council to help us in our goal of encouraging more young people and families to travel safely, help the environment and improve our wellbeing.  The parent council have listened to what we need, and we have really enjoyed being part of this application.”

By voting for this bid it ensures that UNCRCs Article 31 ‘A right to play’ gives young people the feeling of safety going to and from school in ways that they associate with play and connecting with others.

We are the Junior Section of Garnock Rugby Club.  We strive to keep rugby as affordable as possible to young people while providing opportunities to promote health and wellbeing through physical activity.  We would like to purchase equipment and make a contribution towards the costs the club incurs to hire indoor and astro turf facilities during the winter months.  This allows young people to continue to participate in rugby activities during the winter months thus supporting their health and weelbeing (physical and mental).  By seeking funding we are able to keep our membership and siubscriptions fees as low as possible to ensure costs are not restrictive in people being involved in the sport.

The 5 day, residential trip to Ardentinny for 70 children costs £22260, £318 per child.

The Parent Counsil tried to rasie funds to reduce this cost per child.  

In addition to the Youth PB Fund, we usually manage to rasie £1500 via our school fayre and school raffle.

This reduces the cost by approximatley £35 per child. 

The 'self-care sunday' will be open to children and young people aged 11-26, and will be inclusive of the following activities to promote physical and mental wellbeing; therapy dogs, introduction to yoga and mindfulness, introduction to reki, havening session, art therapy, journalling and gratitude workshop. We have had a very successful year with delivering weekly training to approximately 25 children.  We have also just held our 3rd inter-school tournament and are looking at taking a team to competition with other schools and clubs on the mainland.  We need equipment to allow us to particpate and we are looking for funding for helmets.  These are priced at £65 each and we would require 10 of these.
