The proposed closure of Kilwinning library at 4pm on a Tuesday would negatively impact our group. We used to meet at 6p - 7pm but a previous tranche of reduction of opening hours resulted in our having to change our meeting time to 5pm, resulting in our losing a few members for whom this change in time was inconvenient. We changed our meeting time to 5pm and have since built up our membership to 13 but changing to an earlier time again may result in our losing more members due to the new time being inconvenient for them. Furthermore, we want to be inclusive and open to working people. Even 5 pm may be too early for some but 4pm or earlier would be too early for more potential members. Our current group is an important element in all of our lives. We enjoy books and discussing them, of course, but we learn a lot about each other in our discussions. The proposed change might have the effect of removing a valuable social and emotional support from some members.
