I rely on the library to connect with people and to take part in my writing group and book club. I use the library to research my family tree and to borrow books. I consider it to be a huge help in my emotional wellbeing. I do not drive and struggle to get to other libraries by public transport.
I don't know what the changes are so can't comment. The changes are vague that are given. I don't see hours or day to be closed for Irvine library mentioned and traveling to another library in the area may not be possible without a car especially if you have problems walking a distance
I want to also mention at this juncture about the lovely warm welcome we all receive from the library staff throughout our sessions. Lovely cold water is provided, or tea/coffee if we require so, nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff to assist me or any of my group with. I would go so far to say that it is indeed a joy each time I walk through the door to enter the library. The book displays are very well arranged and the projects & pictures the little children have completed throughout the year with different themes to encourage them & to teach the various subjects. (all learning opportunities for every age group). I do hope you will consider all of the above before reducing the hours of Kilwinning Library being open.
I have always enjoyed visiting the library as a child, teenager, student nurse & midwife plus as a Health Visitor. I strongly encouraged my mums in the community I served to join the library with their family. Thanking you in anticipation.
Well, if the library is closed we would not be able to run our class. If the day changed it would perhaps confuse the older members of our class. As they are organised & have their week planned. Most people do enjoy a routine in their week $look forward to the mid-week class. The library is also well situated (next to an elderly living complex just a "stone's throw" away from their abodery (ideal to say the least!)
Because I'm retired and don't usually participate in events, it will have little impact. But, as a former chartered librarian I worry, that it will impact other people and the library staff
Whilst the proposed changes for the library I use most would not impact me. The changes of some of the hours for smaller branches specifically Beith would impact my grandchildren. The continual errosion of these important services concerns me. We are constantly being reminded how bad screen time and using ipads is for children, yet councils feel it is okay to reduce services which could help counteract this.
The loss of evening hours will affect working people -especially those with commitments on a Saturday. When I worked evening opening was vital to me and would not like to see others disenfranchised. Why not spend the consultation cost on library services? Each year, you chip away at this vital service. Presumably this will allow you to say "no need for libraries". The what?
