West Kilbride Primary school parent council uniform shop

West Kilbride Primary Parent Council Uniform Shop

2023-09-11  •  No comments  •  Emma Clark  •  North Coast

This is a Community ran FREE pre-loved uniform shop for all those attending West Kilbride Primary School.

Our aim is to help anyone needing access to free school uniforms, no questions asked.

A huge benefit of using pre loved clothes is that you are helping the environment. Children grow so fast that there is a high turnover of school uniforms with some having to be replaced with a bigger size at the start of each term! By donating or using the pre-loved facility you are helping the environment.

Donations of clean, good condition school uniforms, shoes, trainers, wellies, school-bags & jackets are currently accepted however a lot of the time we don't have sizes/items requested and we would love to be able to help anyone that approaches us for help with primary school uniform. All donations are washed and ironed before being sent out if they are not brand new.

All enquiries are treated in the strictest confidence so people can be confident that their enquiry or request will be kept confidential.

We looking to find new items including underwear, pants, socks and tights. Along with warm winter jackets/waterproof shoes/boots as we enter the winter season.

We estimate £1000 would give us a great basis to work from and enable us to restock throughout the next year when we hold our pop up shops at parents nights at the school.

The cost of living Crisis is still greatly affecting local families and this helps parents and carers ease their financial worries over clothing their children for school.

Multi-Sports Club

2023-09-14  •  No comments  •  Isle of Arran Sports Clubs  •  Arran

Over 50 young people from across all 7 primaries on the island come together to participate on a Wednesday afternoon at a P5-P7 multi-sports club, where pupils participate in a variety of sports. It’s important for youngsters in smaller schools to engage with peers of a similar age, which is something that doesn’t always happen. This is a chance for youngsters to build relationships from different villages, which also prepares the young people for transition into secondary school.

There are a number of costs to make this possible –

Transport costs (taxi for pupils from further afield) - £500

Equipment (balls, bibs, cones, fun games) - £250

Educational STEM / ECO Trips

2023-09-08  •  No comments  •  Lesley Richardson  •  Three Towns

A variety of trips throughout the year - Science Centre / Whitelees Windfarm / Dumfries House / Museum of Rural Life - Farm Trip / Vikingar / Educational Science shows to visit the school - Sense.

Dependent on which stage goes there are approximately 60 kids and 1/2 buses needed for each trip.  Just now we are over £250 for a bus and per head for most of these trips it is 4/5 pounds so it is approximately £500 a trip per school year stage.  So any contribution for buses and activities would be amazing.

Outdoor metal storage shed - L-2.6 X H- 2.1 x W- 1.54

This is a medium outdoor container at the cost of £1700.

Funds from the summer fayre will be used to make up the difference from our parent council contribution.

This additional storage would allow us to fund further outdoor resources that children across all of our year groups can enjoy during a host of activities with their teachers. At the moment, although we have purchased outdoor engagement material they are in a near-by locker as the school simply does not have the capacity to store the additional equipment, therefore access is limited.

We have watched children thrive as they engage in an array of learning outdoors. Research has proven the link between positive mental health and the outdoors in both adults and children, it is not biased to age, sex, race or ethnicity therefore anyone is free to enjoy it, and as it lends itself so perfectly to team-building activities the children, following limited social engagement have learned, or re-learned how to interact and socialise with eachother through such activities. This was crucially important to the children who have recently left to begin their next phase of learning at secondary school. The pupils within Lawthorn follow our scottish governments curriculum for excellence which aims to provide our children with the knowledge and skills to thrive in the world we live in. The children have spoken so positively about any outdoor endeavours that they get access to, learning about the importance of being both physically well and mentally well to not only achieve their physical growth milestones but their academic ones also.

Our club supports people of all ages, providing exercise, descipline, respect and self belonging. We have incorporated session to support children with additional needs, removing those barriers and allowing them to take part and belong to a club. Exercise can improve your sense of control, coping ability and self-esteem. People who exercise regularly often report how good achieving a goal makes them feel.

Sports Council

2023-09-15  •  No comments  •  Sports Council  •  Irvine

We would like to provide sports clothing to the young people in the Irvine area to allow them to have access to free sporting sessions.  As a Sports Council we provide a range of the activities (most are not at capacity) but we currently cannot provide the sports kit to allow some young people the ability to access. We feel under capacity is likely to be due to them not having kit.

Cheap dri-fit sports tshirts = approx £6 -7 per item.

Cheap dri-fit sports shorts =approx £7 per item

We would look to help up to 100-120 pupils and would look to variety of sellers to try and get best deal.  From our inital research we can buy this for reasonable price and we would go for best, and cheapest, to get us the most amount of items.

This will then allow them to access the 12-15 sports clubs that we run.

Ardeer Thistle Girls Under 14's

The under 14's girls team is newly established.  It already has 22 girls who have joined and the numbers are continuing to climb.  Due to the team being newly established we need to ensure we have the essential items for the girls to feel they are truly part of a team/club.

We hope to use the funding for:

22 x Training strips £660.00

22 x Rain Jackets £572

We will be creating fundraising events to make up the additional costs.
