Showtime Youth Theatre

2023-09-10  •  No comments  •  Tricia  •  Irvine

The money would be used to put on a Theatre Show in March 2024 to assist with costumes, props and scenery.

The young people gain experience with performing and working together which builds their mental and physical wellbeing, communication and teamwork skills and builds confidence and trust. Most importantly they mix all of these skills with having fun and growing together. The Showtime Youth Theatre assists young people to express themselves; gain confidence with public activities and ensures that nursery, primary and secondary school young people interact and the culmination of learning songs, dances and acting skills creates a fantastic performance.

The young people are working very hard every week to learn their new dances/routines and whilst we have auditions for the lead parts, all young people have an active and inclusive part to play whether it is in acting, dancing, singing or drama. This builds not only confidence but also maintains positive mental and physical wellbeing and entertains the people of Ayrshire whilst being a fun activity.  One main aim is the development of our young people and to watch them grow throughout the years but we also wish for our local community in Ayrshire to thrive and we therefore try to source and support our local businesses as much as we can.

The Showtime Youth Theatre is an integral part of Irvine life as the young people participate in Marymass, put on shows at Fullarton Connexions, for the Ayrshire Hospice and sing Christmas Carols within local Supermarkets. The young people also learn the value of team work, kindness, community spirit and about the Irvine locality when they bag pack and fundraise in local shops and supermarkets.

Through participating in a show and working on their group activities and then as a whole team together, the young people gain many skills from teamwork to trust to understanding others and working at different paces to reach their end goal, showing how hard work and participation gives achievement and puts on a fantastic show which is fun and benefits them.

The main benefactors of the funding are the young people but it is also the Instructors and friends and family who get to enjoy all the hard work when they see the performances and smiles on the faces.

St. Palladius Parent Council

The funds would allow the school to pay for the sports coaches expenses to run 2 sessions per week for the next three school terms. These sessions would begin in October and run from 3pm – 4pm.

We wish to continue with the success of the football afterschool club for girls and boys from Primary 5-7, this club would run for the rest of the academic year.  The funds would allow us to pay for transport to take the football team to upcoming tournaments which are organised by North Ayrshire Council Active Schools. We would add to our exsiting sports kit to allow the children to be identified and part of the team.

We would use some of the fund to pay a netball coach to establish a netball after school club.  Following consultation with the pupils from St. Palladius’ Primary this was a sport that the children showed a high level of interest in.  Netball tournaments are organised by north Ayrshire council and the funds would enable us to pay for buses in order for the children to attend.

Following the success of the Dance Club last session, the children are very keen to continue this.  The children took part in the Day of Dance last year and we woud love to provide this opportunity again.

The school have Young Sports Leaders who have responsibility for promoting physical activity in the playground.  The children undertook training in playground games and have requested playground equipment in order to fully engage all the children in the school.  The fund would be used to purchase this equipment. The children will work closely with North Ayrshire’s Active Schools Coordinator to successfully deliver their lunchtime club, which will run each day for the rest of the academic year.

Physical and mental health and wellbeing is always at the heart of St. Palladius’ agenda.  Afterschool sports clubs are an excellent way to engage children in physical activity and improve their health and mental well-being.  Exposing children to sports and physical activity in an afterschool environment encourages them to explore the sport in the community and strengthens the pathways into the sport.  It is hoped that that the afterschool club will encourage more children to participate in sport and thus increase their physical fitness.  Due to the cost of living crisis, after school clubs are the only opportunity that some children have to participate in sports.

Through this fund we wish to improve aspects of fitness, and develop personal and interpersonal skills and attributes.  We want to enable learners to develop the concepts and skills necessary for participation in a wide range of physical activity, sport and outdoor learning and enhance their physical wellbeing in preparation for leading a fulfilling, active and healthy lifestyle.

The school’s Young Sports Leaders (Primary 6 and 7 pupils) are involved in this application through providing their opinion on the after school clubs they wish to have established. The have selected the equipment needed for their lunchtime ‘Playground Games’ club.

Sports equipment - £300

School sports kit - £200

Coaches' expenses - £200

Buses to sporting events - £300

Youth Legacy Action Team

2023-09-14  •  No comments  •  Morgan Blackie  •  Irvine

We would like to have a free bite to eat during each group as this is something that we are often asking for. The Legacy Centre currently runs a group on a sunday “Food chat and chill” which is one of our most popular groups and provides young people with a free hot meal. This has shown us that other young people as well as ourselves benefit from a free meal and snack while we are at the youth group during the week. We would like there to be a choice of tuckshop sweets for young people to choose one per night and a range of juice for young people to access. We would also like to stock a range of noodles for young people to have when they are visiting.

£250 - tuckshop snacks

£250 - juice

£500 - noodles

West Kilbride Primary Parent Council Uniform Shop

2023-09-11  •  No comments  •  Emma Clark  •  North Coast

This is a Community ran FREE pre-loved uniform shop for all those attending West Kilbride Primary School.

Our aim is to help anyone needing access to free school uniforms, no questions asked.

A huge benefit of using pre loved clothes is that you are helping the environment. Children grow so fast that there is a high turnover of school uniforms with some having to be replaced with a bigger size at the start of each term! By donating or using the pre-loved facility you are helping the environment.

Donations of clean, good condition school uniforms, shoes, trainers, wellies, school-bags & jackets are currently accepted however a lot of the time we don't have sizes/items requested and we would love to be able to help anyone that approaches us for help with primary school uniform. All donations are washed and ironed before being sent out if they are not brand new.

All enquiries are treated in the strictest confidence so people can be confident that their enquiry or request will be kept confidential.

We looking to find new items including underwear, pants, socks and tights. Along with warm winter jackets/waterproof shoes/boots as we enter the winter season.

We estimate £1000 would give us a great basis to work from and enable us to restock throughout the next year when we hold our pop up shops at parents nights at the school.

The cost of living Crisis is still greatly affecting local families and this helps parents and carers ease their financial worries over clothing their children for school.

P7 Residential Trip to Ardentinny

2023-09-04  •  No comments  •  Marie Prince  •  North Coast

Research evidence indicates that outdoor learning engages young people in investing in the planet and engaging with the environment, enhancing confidence socialisation and team work. Connection with nature has mental and physical health benefits which assist in contributing to the overall health of our local population. There are social inequalities in access to nature, this project aims to ensure that all children in Primary 7 can access outdoor learning via their residential trip.

The Covid 19 pandemic has exacerbated mental difficulties in young people, access to nature has been shown in research to improve symptoms of anxiety and depression. Being phsically active is as effective if not more so in alleviating the symtoms of mild to moderate anxiey and depresison than medication. Encouraging pupils to access outdoor space has numerous mental and physical health benefits thus contributing to a healthy and productive local population.

WHAT WE WANT TO DO WITH THE GRANT AND WHY As the cost of living increases, many families are struggling to contribute to thier child's education financially. the Primary 7 residential trip to Ardentinny, tends to cost around £270 per child. The Parent Council wants to raise funds to reduce the cost of this trip as far as possible and if possible, fudn it entirely. The residential trip enables all primary 7 children to access outdoor learning, engage with nature, experience independence away from thier families and build their confidence and team work skills.

COSTS Ardentinny residential trip 78 pupils x £270 each = £21060

Hayocks Primary School Parent Council

2023-09-15  •  No comments  •  Hayocks primary parent council 2023  •  Three Towns

We as a Parent Council feel that since lockdown during the pandemic that  its more important now than ever that children get to socialise and mix with other children and parties are the perfect opportunity for them to do this, as this ensures that the children and young people to have the opportunity to lead a healthy and active life. We would get the children involved within the planning of the parties so that they're voices are being heard and what their preferences are. the money we are applying for would be spent on as follows:

  • Hall to hold the parties and events - £90 x3
  • Decorations  because a party isn't complete without decorations - £310
  • Entertainment - £200
  • Catering - £70 x3

With the cost of living crisis people aren't able to have parties or children aren't able to attend parties with the lack of funds within families so if we are able to take the stress away for some parents and support the mental well being of the children in the community then we would love to do so.  Our aim is to have a Valentines party for the children in February, Easter party in April and then a halloween party in October next year.
