Tai -Chi
No comments North Coast

We would like to continue to offer Tai-Chi classes to people living with Dementia in our local Community. Funding a qualified Tai-Chi Instructor and hiring an appropriate Hall, to undertake the classes for the local Community. Research Studies showed that in people with mild cognitive impairment Tai-Chi slowed the progression to Dementia more than other types of exercise and improved cognitive function in a comparable fashion to other types of exercise or cognitive training. Tai-chi is a safe effective activity that improves physical balance and emotional wellbeing in older adults.

We are at the stage where we have a Constitution, proposed and seconded at our first
AGM held on Tuesday 15th August 2023 where we openly elected a committee from 18 members.

Dundonald Crescent will be known by many, by the previous name, Dundonald Camp, or as “The old military houses” near the Paper Mill. We are working closely with North Ayrshire Council and the surrounding communities to establish our estate with a brand-new identity. Over a decade has passed since the M.O.D sold the estate and now is the time to see the place where we call home flourish and evolve into a desirable place to stay.

Springside Community Association would like to hold 2 special events for all of the children in the community to enjoy, free of charge. WK Yuletide Group - Replacement of electrical system for Xmas lights
2 comments North Coast

<span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Installation of replacement electrical system for Yuletide lights in Ritchie Street and Main Street West Kilbride Ayrshire. Work is required because the existing electrical system which has been in place for many years no longer complies with current electrical regulations as recently intimated by NAC Building Services.

<span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">New/replacement connections need to be provided from a number of premises in the village and the external wall cabling needs to be replaced as it is over 25 years old. Without this work taking place there will no longer be street lighting motifs for Yuletide activities in West Kilbride much to the detriment of community wellbeing.

<span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">If this project doesn't go ahead there will be no Yuletide street lights this year in West Kilbride for the first time in over 25 years.

This fund would allow us to prepare healthy, nutricious "ready meals" for individuals removing the worry of the cost of cooking. Given that winter is approaching, families will have to choose whether to heat or cook and by having this offer, it lessens the stress of the worry.

Arran Churches Together (ACT) Food Bank
No comments Arran

Arran Churches Together Food Bank was set up in 2011 when a concerned resident made a local minister aware that a local family had struggled to put food on the table during the Christmas period. No-one should experience food or fuel poverty however there are more than 2,000 foodbanks across the UK supporting those in need. Our foodbank on Arran provides emergency food for local people who require additional support. The Arran foodbank is independent and requires no referral - anonimity and dignity are very important and can be a problem, particularly in rural communities. The food bank can be accessed in the vestibule of Brodick Church which is open 24/7. The ACT Foodbank is the only foodbank on Arran. Our island can be a costly place to live - lack of affordable housing pushes many families into private lets which can be costly; there is no mains gas on the island, homes are heated by electricity, oil, wood or coal; food shopping is done at either local village shops or Co-op supermarket, there is no option to shop in budget supermarkets. We are aware that in recent times, there are families on Arran with people in employment having to use the foodbank

Our local supermarket displays a basket for collection of donated long life food items - these are collected by volunteers who use them to keep the food bank shelves, at Brodick Church, well stocked. Although the Arran community continue to be generous with donations, the volunteers often have to buy food to keep things topped up. Money used for these shops is taken from a fund made up of monetary donations from local individuals and organisations. However the increased cost of food shopping, means we are going through this fund very quickly.
