St Winin’s Over 60’S Club
2023-09-14 • No comments • • Kilwinning
We are applying for funding to enable our over 60's club to hold a special Burns Supper. This event would provide a beacon of light in the dark winter months when social isolation and the cost of living crisis have an even greater impact on people's health and wellbeing. This event would bring the club together with celebration and fun. With this funding we would be able to organise food and entertainment for this event which would make it a special day for all group members to enjoy. Our club plays a vital role in combatting loneliness and encourages members to come along weekly to connect with others and share enjoyable experiences. The club means so much to its members and has a real impact on people's lives in a positive way. Any additional funding would help us to pay for the ongoing weekly letting cost of £50.
Burns Supper: including food, toasts, entertainment and hall hire-£600
Hall letting fees for 8 weeks- £400
Whiting Bay Primary Parent Council Sensory Garden
2023-09-08 • No comments • • Arran
A 'Wendy House' style shed for equipment to be stored safely in a child friendly and all weather setting. Cost £500
Raised and flat planters for herbs, flowers, fruit and vegetables. Cost £250
Seeds and young plants to be planted seasonally. Cost £150
Tactile and Sound items such as cedar shillings, lava stones and wind chimes. Cost £100
• The tubs across from the school are already tended by the Primary school year round. We have a janitor who is employed all year and she does this and would take charge of the sensory garden during the holidays.
• The Primary school has a very close relationship with the community. We have had daffodil tea afternoons and Christmas Coffee afternoons which are open to the village residents. We use the local church for school services and we would look into a collaboration with the Warm Rooms. Due to school risk assessments and council restrictions for people who are not part of the school community, it would not be feasible to have them come to the garden. However having spoken to a member of the church and Warm Room volunteer they feel it would be of benefit to them to have flowers, drawings and a presentation when the work is completed.
• Whiting Bay benefits from a Community Land Initiative and we would be working in conjunction with them to source sustainable and local plants
Skelmorlie Secret Bunker Groundhog Welfare Unit.

Access to the toilet compartment at the rear of the Groundhog involves stepping up/down a distance of approx 25cm and closing the metal door behind you.
This is further complicated by the Groundhog welfare unit lying on a slightly downward facing slope.
Our museum visitors and walkers/cyclists passing by on stage 12 of the Ayrshire coastal path have free access to our Groundhog toilet compartment during our opening times from April to September and this covers all age ranges and from individuals to families.
We have attempted to reduce any access difficulty to the toilet compartment by the temporary positioning of two wooden pallets to act as an intermediate step, however due to the exposed nature of the site and wooden material these now require replacement.
We have approached a long established blacksmith based in Largs and they can design, manufacture and install a steel frame covered by an aluminium durbar sheet which has a raised pattern feature to form a non-slip surface in any direction and which will form a platform with the same dimensions as the existing pallet area for £960 including vat..
This will act as a permanent solution making access/egress easier, while spending the money within the North Coast to the benefit of the business and its employees.
We are hoping to develop in the coming year an approach to those individuals or groups looking to improve their physical fitness and mental health by providing a free resource rest and/or turn round stop at our site which is 3 miles north of Largs on what was previously known as the red road from Routenburn Golf course to the Meigle.
Our free admission museum is available for visits from those with mobility issues and both our museum and welfare unit are powered using PV solar panels for lighting and communications equipmen as part of our drive to minimise the use of fossil fuels due to not having a mains connection to our museum site..

Building upon the foundation of our longstanding Adult Drama group, which has been a source of empowerment for individuals, aged 18+, in the Three Towns and North Ayrshire since 2015, we are excited to offer immersive classes led by industry professionals. Our goal is to inspire both our current attendees and newcomers to refine their acting abilities, delve into the art of scriptwriting, and showcase their own creative performances. Our vision for this current group entails the creation of a unique performance that will unfurl as participants embark on this artistic journey, rekindling a captivating local Scottish legend, ‘The Flannan Isle mystery’. Under the guidance of a professional Theatre director and theatre maker, participants will cultivate skills in devising, improvisation, script interpretation, and enhancing their vocal and physical performance prowess. Our mission goes beyond just creative growth. In the aftermath of the COVID-19, many people have struggled with isolation, loneliness and lacking confidence in social situations, our Adult Drama group offers individuals a chance to join a group of likeminded people and reduce social isolation. We believe in promoting enhanced mental well-being and fostering adaptable skills that extend beyond our sessions, including, contributing to securing employment prospects and educational opportunities. Our classes are be situated within local venues, which are easily accessible by public transport or within walking distance, which also promotes exercise and physical health. We prioritize marginalized communities in our initiatives, striving for equity. Our Adult Drama class is offered at an affordable price and to make sure participants are given the chance to attend and are not hindered by financial barriers. Over the years, we've nurtured a vibrant community of passionate Arts enthusiasts, nurturing camaraderie, and enthusiasm among our members. DCERA Growing Community
2023-09-08 • 2 comments • • Irvine
Auchengate, and in particular Dundonald Crescent, is home to an abundance of wildlife, beautiful views, and families with young children. Our committee members, with the help of those families, contribute a very diverse mix of skills and experience, and are coming together to help our residents by volunteering time, services and knowledge to improve and enhance the look of our estate, whilst building relationships and community spirit. Due to the cost-of-living crisis and the cost of garden maintenance equipment, such as lawnmowers, many of our residents cannot afford the extra expense that comes with garden maintenance, or simply do not have the time due to working whilst supporting young children, or the knowledge to use such equipment safely. This is where DCERA can help.
We would like to purchase two items for our community.
1. Currently, a member of our committee volunteers his time to cut the grass on the front and rear gardens for 25 out of 76 properties within the estate. He generously does this with his personal old mower which is not reliable or fit for purpose for this capacity of work on a weekly basis. We are looking to buy a new mower from a local company that will provide us with great aftercare and a service plan, to be used by two members of the committee to share the responsibility and workload. DCERA will also be covered with liabilty insurance.
2. We intend to buy a good quality, heavy duty gazebo, that will be bespoke made with our DCERA logo. This will be used regularly at events within our estate and further afield for fundraising, drop-in sessions, community barbecues, boot sales, sports and games, and a whole host of other uses.
Cost of Lawnmower - £450
Cost of Gazebo - £600

The cost of bringing one author to Arran including travel to the island, overnight accommodation, subsistence plus their fee (on average) was £500 in 2022 - all depending on where they are travelling from.
It is anticipated this figure will increase for 2024. At the moment our Wee Mac Programme is expected to have 8 guest events over the two days
Venue hire for 2 days - final figure yet to be advised by AHM Committee but the very modest sum of £200 hire fee is expected to increase for 2024.
Set up of Microphone, Speaker/Sound equipment and cabling - supply and in person support for Wee Mac over two days £350
The funding we are applying for would be used to cover :-
Arran Heritage Museum venue hire costs, sound engineer and any balance left to help towards the cost of one programme guest.

Irvine Burns Club are seeking funding to provide trophies and book prizes for those pupils nominated to represent their schools at a “Champion of Champion” event held in Wellwood Burns Centre and Museum and demonstrate their skill in presenting their chosen poem. It is intended that there will be three categories, Primaries 1-2; Primaries 3-4 and Primaries 5-7.
Those nominated by their schools are also eligible to compete in the Ayrshire Association of Burns Clubs Schools’ Competition held later in the year.
If successful there they can go forward to perform at the Robert Burns World Federation National Festival. In the recent past several of our young people have been successful at this stage.
There are 11 Primary Schools in the Irvine Area and it is hoped that all would participate.
We seek funding to purchase 36 trophies at a cost of £20 each (£720) and 36 book prizes at a cost of £7.50 each (£270) a total of £990.
Any unused trophies and book prizes purchased would be held for use in following years.
