SeaSalt Streets Pop-Up Events / Re-Building Community Spirit
2023-09-16 • 1 comment • • Three Towns
Seasalt Streets intend to run a series of events in and around the town centre. These events are intended to create a talking point, a feel good factor, a want to get involved and inspire others to create their own event thereby starting a Ripple Effect !!! The group intend to organise pop-ups which are different to the norm in Saltcoats town centre.
Our ideas vary from Smoothie bikes - bicycles with blenders attached which the rider uses to create fruit and / or milk smoothies, old style kerbie days - the game where opponents try to bounce a football back from the opposite "kerb", a "free for all stage" where locals and others can showcase their talents - poetry reading, violin playing, dancing, joke telling etc. Other ideas include pop-up sample sessions using established groups to promote their clubs and increase membership. Clubs interested include NATTC (North Ayrshire Table Tennis Club). Shibumi Karate Club, Dance Mafia (Hip Hop dancing), LeROC (line dance etc).
All of the events are targeted at community building, health and wellbeing, promoting mental health and encouraging economic growth.
If successful, SeaSalt Streets intend to use the funding to purchase a large gazebo (6m x 3m) to showcase their event (regardless of weather). The gazebo will be a vivid colour making it visible from a distance, encouraging people to inquire more !!! The cost of this gazebo, including protective sides, leg weights and carry case is £699.00
The group would use the balance of the funding to purchase (a) SeaSalt Streets branded "T" shirts and hoodies for existing group members (8) to enable them to be identified as points of contact for enquiries and security reasons, and (b) to purchase branded promotional material to promote and grow the group membership. this is costed at £200.00 for clothing and £100.00 for merchandise,
Whiting Bay Primary Parent Council Sensory Garden
2023-09-08 • No comments • • Arran
A 'Wendy House' style shed for equipment to be stored safely in a child friendly and all weather setting. Cost £500
Raised and flat planters for herbs, flowers, fruit and vegetables. Cost £250
Seeds and young plants to be planted seasonally. Cost £150
Tactile and Sound items such as cedar shillings, lava stones and wind chimes. Cost £100
• The tubs across from the school are already tended by the Primary school year round. We have a janitor who is employed all year and she does this and would take charge of the sensory garden during the holidays.
• The Primary school has a very close relationship with the community. We have had daffodil tea afternoons and Christmas Coffee afternoons which are open to the village residents. We use the local church for school services and we would look into a collaboration with the Warm Rooms. Due to school risk assessments and council restrictions for people who are not part of the school community, it would not be feasible to have them come to the garden. However having spoken to a member of the church and Warm Room volunteer they feel it would be of benefit to them to have flowers, drawings and a presentation when the work is completed.
• Whiting Bay benefits from a Community Land Initiative and we would be working in conjunction with them to source sustainable and local plants
Makin' Chat

The idea for this group is that they will meet regularly to talk it out, to make things, or bake things and to carve out a space for themselves to do things that they would like to do. Often socialising as adults involves alcohol and costs money. After recently running an arts and crafts course, It was clear within the feedback I received that people want and need something to look forward to, something regular and reliable that allows them to do something for themselves - to meet new people and just have a chat, about anything and everything.
At the first session I would like everyone to come together, to generate ideas of things they would like to do within the group, any activities, conversations or new skills they'd like to learn. This could be anything from crotcheing to baking, from arts and crafts to having guest speakers in, games nights or simply just a cup of tea and a chat.
This group aims to build a sense of community spirit, to reduce social isolation and promote positive mental health and wellbeing through the simple act of socialising. the group would be open to any adults who would like to come along, from any background and any walk of life.
Proposed breakdown of costs:
This project will run in partnership with the North Ayrshire Foodbank, they have offered to match the funding requested by this application, in order to allow the group to run for as long as possible.
- £1000 - materials/ ingredients/ equipment for activities

Life Lines is a group that supports and promotes Suicide awareness. The group have been runing for a number of years and have made information packs. With the change over the last few years organisations in the information pack have changed. Life lines have now become Digital. They launched this new tool on Suicide Awareness day this year.
This group works closely with organisations to add them to the resource. Being digital they can add and remove numbers and details so the the resource is kept up to date.
The group would like to apply for: Pop up banners x 2 £150 each, Gazebo £350, and promotional materials £350. Having the QR code on these items could be the life line that the person needs.
This will allow the group to attend information days and have pop up stalls promoting positive mental health awareness.

Garnock Valley Allotment Association Bee Colony and Honey Production.
Bees are pollinators. Pollinators are vital for life on earth as we know it, without them we wouldnt have potatoes, strawberries, tomatoes, coffee, chocolate, cotton or honey. However Bee populations are in danger of extinction due to a number of factors such as disease, habitat loss and the impact of pesticides. Organic food production, which is practiced at the Garnock Valley Allotment Associiation is ideal for a Bee colony as it creates a safe haven for the Bees to survive. Please Bee kind and vote for the GVAA Bee Colony Project.

New Bee Hive - £250-00
Bee Suits- £250.00
New Equipment to extract and distribute Honey- £300

Healing Hearts North Ayrshire Bereavement Group
2023-08-31 • No comments • • Kilwinning
The group sees an average of 15-17 bereaved people attending each Friday, with new referrals being made weekly, to receive peer-support, friendship and companionship from others who have been bereaved, making them feel less alone in their grief, and reducing feelings of social isolation and loneliness, whilst promoting better mental health and wellbeing.
There is very limited support in the community for bereaved people, with waiting lists at an all-time high, highlighting the importance of community supports, such as Healing Hearts, which has already made a significant difference to bereaved people across North Ayrshire.
Room at Kilwinning Library at £3.70 ph x 2 hours per week = £7.40 per week x 48 weeks = £355.20 for the year. The group also require tea, coffee, milk, sugar and biscuits for each group, averaging £6 per week = £288
Total £983.20
Irvine and District Pipe Band

New communal instruments i.e. drums - £500 Hall let hire - £100 Uniforms for young people - £250 Tutoring from professionals - £150 Total - £1000
Having new equipment would allow the band to take on more beginners and give more young people the opportunity to take part in the band. We have some New Scots in the band and would love to be able to take on more to share the culture of Scottish music. People from all over North Ayrshire come to the band and its an opportunity for people to link up and get to know new people and make friends. In terms of mental health and wellbeing, we have some people in the band who suffer from PTSD, elderly people and some who are socially isolated.
The pipe band is really beneficial for the volunteers who build their confidence running the band and getting this funding would mean a lot to us in terms of increasing capacity and learning how to do more things with the band. We work with other voluntary organisations across Irvine to provide pipers for special events at a discounted rate and also refer people to the band who want to learn a new instrument.

Within the Garnock Valley there is a substantial amount of families and individuals who live in poverty. A few years ago, as a charity-based organization, we felt that this is something that we should address and started to look at what we could do to help in our community. The statistics at that time found that 1 in 3 children in the Garnock Valley go to bed without a meal at dinner time. We introduced a community meal where families can get a three course meal for £2.50 and children can eat free, we also accept referrals through the local authority and other organisations which allows families, and or individuals who are strugling with the cost of living, to eat for free. This has become very popular over the last few years with orders ranging from 55 – 125 individuals. This usually varies depending on what is on the menu that night. As well as a collection service we offer a delivery to those who are unable to get to the building, which gives an apportunity for our trained staff to check in with those who live in isolation. Currently our vegetables for our meals are purchased through a local supplier. We have discussed for some time that it would be more cost effective if we could grow our own vegetables and use these as part of the meal we provide.
Within the Community Hub we support adults with learning disabilities and as part of their daily programme, we could implement a grow your own food activity. This is something that the service users would really enjoy and are currently doing this on a much smaller scale within our garden. The ingredients could be used both for the community meals and when the service user's are making food within the training kitchen, which is where they prepare a meal from scratch to take home to eat. The positive aspect being the reward for the time spent growing the vegetables/fruit, so that they can enjoy this as well as the most vulnerable people in our community.
We are looking to do more to help the vulnerable in Garnock Valley, by proposing to implement cooking classes for the impoverished. This venture is still in its infancy; however we are keen to develop this. The food grown within the Polly tunnel could also be used for this project once we have the service up and running.
Polly tunnel - £500
Groundwork -£500
Irvine and Dreghorn Brass - help us get digital and buy some instruments!

Musical instruments - £630. Scanner / printer - £370 Total - £1000
Project supports health and well-being
Irvine and Dreghorn Brass has been in existence for c. 45 years and is a registered charity. We have 3 brass bands in our organisation and we provide opportunities for community members to learn music, play in a group and be entertained by music which has major health and well-being benefits for participants and audiences alike.
We perform at over 30 concerts and gala days each year and are seen by thousands of people. We also provide free music lessons and access to brass and percussion instruments for young people and adults.
Part of the funding would be spent on instruments that enable more people to play. While we will require to spend more than £630 on buying new / nearly new instruments, we will look to fund this additioal spend via other sources.
We would also like to buy a good quality printer / scanner. We often need to copy sheet music for our musicians to play and practice. Also we have a large library of sheet music, around 900 arrangements collected over our 40+ year existence, that we would like to digitise (scan). Parts of the sheet music often get lost or damaged and creating on-line copies would protect the music and enable us to print parts as required for our band rehearsals and classes.
Demand for our services is growing and our membership has grown 50% in the last year. Many people want to play in bands and community groups have us play at events.
