Summary

SeaSalt Streets have, as part of their vision, a longing to bring life and vitality into Saltcoats and in particularly to the heart of the town centre. We have successfully completed most of the vision created by the group, a vision inspired through extensive public consultation with members of the local community and beyond. One part of the initial vision remains unfulfilled -- the use of pop-up events as a means of building community spirit and ownership, a series of "different" one-off events to inspire others to think out of the box and to bring people into the town centre thereby stimulating economic growth. The events will also be used as an opportunity for SeaSalt Streets to showcase their group, it's vision for the future and as a recruitment tool for new members.

Description

Seasalt Streets intend to run a series of events in and around the town centre. These events are intended to create a talking point, a feel good factor, a want to get involved and inspire others to create their own event thereby starting a Ripple Effect !!! The group intend to organise pop-ups which are different to the norm in Saltcoats town centre.

Our ideas vary from Smoothie bikes - bicycles with blenders attached which the rider uses to create fruit and / or milk smoothies, old style kerbie days - the game where opponents try to bounce a football back from the opposite "kerb", a "free for all stage" where locals and others can showcase their talents - poetry reading, violin playing, dancing, joke telling etc.  Other ideas include pop-up sample sessions using established groups to promote their clubs and increase membership. Clubs interested include NATTC (North Ayrshire Table Tennis Club). Shibumi Karate Club, Dance Mafia (Hip Hop dancing), LeROC (line dance etc).

All of the events are targeted at community building, health and wellbeing, promoting mental health and encouraging economic growth.

If successful, SeaSalt Streets intend to use the funding to purchase a large gazebo (6m x 3m) to showcase their event (regardless of weather). The gazebo will be a vivid colour making it visible from a distance, encouraging people to inquire more !!!  The cost of this gazebo, including protective sides, leg weights and carry case is £699.00

The group would use the balance of the funding to purchase (a)  SeaSalt Streets branded "T" shirts and hoodies for existing group members (8) to enable them to be identified as points of contact for enquiries and security reasons, and (b) to purchase branded promotional material to promote and grow the group membership. this is costed at £200.00 for clothing and £100.00 for merchandise,

Location: Sea Salt Streets hope to be a constituted group in the very near future (a draft constitution has been drawn up) and have applied for a bank account. We currently operate under the TACT/Saltcoats LinkUp umbrella , using their financial and insurance resources. As an independant, fully constituted group we will have our own bank account and public liability insurance. Sea Salt Streets vision is to revitalise the town centre of Saltcoats and to make it a more attractive place for people to visit, connect with others and stimulate economic growth. Operational since March 2021, Sea Salt Streets are a group of local volunteers seeking to make improvements to Dockhead Street (Saltcoats) and the surrounding environments. This group uses creative and innovative appraoches to enhancing the amenity of the area including improving street furniture, street planting, adding street art, re-imagining how to use empty shop units and stimulating new growth through, for example, the use of pop-up events. To date, Sea Salt Streets have successfully accomplished the completion of 2 murals, one of which was created and painted by local youths, the other is the largest piece of street art in North Ayrshire, 18 -20 planters established annually throughout the town, the creation of a heritage window, colourful and historical panels celebrating Saltcoats people of today and yesteryear. Also several pop-up events in which the public participated in such as Kerbie. SeaSalt Steets also created the Ship to Shore Hopscotch trail along the Talking Wall In Winton Circus Promenade. In addition to all of the above, SeaSalt Streets have worked alongside NAC's Streetscene to clean, repaint and maintain the fabric of the town.
