Ayrshire Adult ADHD Peer Support - Wellbeing Programme
Summary
We provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive space where adults can connect with others who understand their experiences, share knowledge and access peer support. Our project will provide a programme of free community meet-ups, creative activities, social gatherings and cultural outings, including visits to the Scottish Maritime Museum. These activities will give adults with ADHD opportunities to build friendships, try new experiences and become more connected to their local community.
Description
We have previously delivered community activities such as visits to Costa Irvine and the Scottish Maritime Museum, and these have been very successful in encouraging members to attend, socialise and build connections outside of our traditional peer support meetings. We want to build on this success and provide a varied programme of social, creative, cultural and peer-support activities.
The project will include:
2 x Irvine Costa community meet-ups – £100
We will hold two informal community meet-ups at Costa Irvine. The room is provided free of charge, with £50 per session allocated for coffee and cake. We have previously held a one-off session and found it to be a relaxed and accessible way for members to connect and socialise.
1 x Scottish Maritime Museum visit, Irvine – £270
We will organise a group visit for approximately 15 adults. We have previously visited the Museum through the Community Welcome Pass scheme, which allowed our members to access the Museum free of charge. We would like to repeat this opportunity, but have included £10 per adult for 15 adults (£150) in our budget so that the activity can still go ahead if free admission is not available.
During our previous visit, we also provided a catered lunch at a cost of £120, which members really enjoyed. We would like to provide this again to make the day welcoming and accessible.
6 x Dreghorn community meetings – £408
We will hold six meetings in Dreghorn, including:
1 x pizza social meeting – £156, including £6 room hire and £150 for pizza and refreshments. 1 x creative vision board session – £156, including £6 room hire and £150 for magazines, craft materials and other resources. 4 x connectivity/peer-support meetings – £96, at £24 per session (£6 room hire + £18 refreshments).
The connectivity meetings will provide regular opportunities for members to meet, have a cuppa, share experiences and maintain the supportive relationships developed through the group. The sessions are on for two hours in the evening time 7pm until 9pm.
Total project cost: £778
The project is designed to be inclusive and accessible, particularly for adults who may experience barriers to participating in mainstream social activities. By providing activities free of charge, we can reduce financial barriers while creating opportunities for connection, confidence-building and community participation.
The funding will allow us to build on activities that have already worked well for our members while introducing creative and social opportunities alongside our regular peer support. Ultimately, the project will help adults with ADHD feel less isolated, more connected to their community and more confident in participating in social activities.
