Summary

The proposed project, will be led by the new S6 Pupil Leadership Team at Kilwinning Academy which aims to raise awareness among young people about the importance of our natural environment, how we can protect it, and the positive impact this can have on their health and well-being. The goal is for the young people involved to take responsibility for a planter in the town centre to demonstrate to the community that we care about our environment and each other.

Description

To purchase materials to help repairing and maintain a disused polytunnel located on the school grounds. Once restored, a group of volunteer S6 pupils and the school Campus Police Officer will provide support to a range of targeted young people who as a result of poor mental health, struggle to attend school or activities within our local community. The overall aim is for young people to develop a better understanding of green issues while improving their own health and well-being.  We believe that it is important that young people gain the skills to plant, grow, and care for plants and vegetables. These skills will then be used to take ownership of a planter box in the town centre to demonstrate to the community what young people can achieve.
