  • I work part time (Wed-Fri) so often take my children to the library on a Monday and Tuesday. If the library closes these days my children who have been accessing the library since they were weeks old and Bookbug classes will no longer be able to visit at all.
I have found it very difficult finding any local clubs or classes for us/them to attend during the start of the week and the library has become a little sanctuary for us to help my children socialise and to maintain my own mental health liaising with others in the community.
The staff have put in so much effort creating a warm and welcoming space for members of the local community and there is no where else within walking distance, due to the closure of the other 2 libraries in the area, that children can access during the week.
The statistics don't seem to match up with the proposed closure days. Furthermore actual footfall on a Tuesday is especially high due to the groups meeting these days.

    • Dreghorn library is in walking distance for a lot of areas. Reducing opening hours restrict the ability for young people and those unable to get to Irvine town centre to use the library. My daughter can walk to Dreghorn library, but can't navigate busses yet, and so reducing hours at Dreghorn library cuts down her access to a library.

The proposals may not have an effect on myself, however I find it strange looking at the pie charts that Tuesdays seem to be a popular day for the issue of books and footfall yet you are planning to close on that day.

        • I work full time and my shifts can be until 8pm during the week and some Saturday's. I don't think I would be able to visit Dreghorn library at all.

          • No, as I am retired. I do not understand your logic in closing the Library on it's busiest day, i.e. a Tuesday, and opening it for a few hours on alternate weeks, on a day when it's never usually open, i.e. a Wednesday. Footfall on a Saturday is very low but there again your proposal is for alternate Saturday opening for a few hours. Irvine Library's total opening hours are not being reduced, presumably to take up the slack from other Libraries' closures, and will be open on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
