Public library is an invaluable resource for those visiting Arran. It is a hub of local activity and the best place to research or receive assistance. Please appreciate how the entire community is enhanced by the capacity to call in, as many days of the week as funding allows.
Any changes which reduce opening and working hours will have an effect on Children's Groups and activities, run very well by staff at Brodick. Brodick is an extremely active library offering a wide range of community services as well as lending books - which is an essential for all age groups particularly, perhaps, the older generation who may not be able to travel to Brodick from around the island; The mobile library is a lifeline.
People on Arran rely on library mobile services as majority are housebound or no suitable bus transport to get to Brodick library. Borrowing books are a godsend to everyone daily, myself included. Librarians are so important to all islanders with their vast knowledge. They have no other library to work at on the proposed closure days.
Withdrawal of the library van would have a direct impact. During serious illness I have relied on this service. Both for books & human contact. Thursday evening service is useful for those who are working.
The library is a lifeline for people in the Arran community. As a new mother, I have met people at Bookbug and my daughter made friends. Older members of the community gather to socialise. In a period where studies are showing that screen times harms children's health & wellbeing free access to books & culture are essential. Any reduction in this access could be detrimental. We do not have another library in Arran. In the summer there are creative classes & workshops for children. People come to use the work spaces. It is a hub for development, learning & interaction. Reading & a love of books is one of the fundamental markers that determines future opportunities for young people. We are doing them a disservice by constantly chipping away at their access to these resources.
I would be very opposed to the library bus being removed from the island. We have an aging rural community who cannot visit Brodick easily. It is very important for literacy for the bus to visit the schools on a regular basis to encourage children to read.
1. Less availability of the resources. I do not have a computer, or the ability to use one without support, and access to the library is already restricted by their hours, lunch break etc. It is the only place I can do anything on a computer - and the requirement to have on-line access grows more & more every day. 2. It is vital that our mobile service continues, as I9 understand Mondays are being considered for cuts - which would severely restrict our elderly, infirm, and housebound - all of whom are already having other services cut. We are an Island and must retain the threadbare services we have at present.

Retain excellent library. I would hate to lose my library.
As I'm housebound it is a great help for me as I read a lot.
