Whilst Saltcoats is my primary base I am equally aware of the value of Ardrossan library both to individual members of the community and to groups who meet within the facility . Following submission of a petition considered at the budget setting committee in February 2025 opposing the closure of Saltcoats Library and the reduction in hours earlier proposed in respect of both libraries on the basis of the 2024 decision to cut library services assurances were given that those proposals would not be implemented but rather a full consideration of wider library usage would be undertaken . I appreciate that following that decision further work on which these proposals are based has been carried out . I do however remain disappointed that the proposals to reduce hours albeit perhaps in a more coordinated fashion to reflect usage is back on the table . The original decision was made without prior consultation and the opposition of the community was made clear in the subsequent petition
I will need to be more aware of opening times but I am glad to still have a library close by. I always check opening times anyway as I need to make a special journey to use the library.
As I work full time I would only be able to access my local branch every 2nd Saturday morning. Not ideal when I've been working all week. I understand other branches will be open and it's currently not an issue for me, but the logistics and cost of travel would impact many, including my elderly parents.
At the moment the changes would not have an impact on me, but they will have an impact on many people especially the elderly and those with young children. They will impact socially and economically .
The proposed hours are not accessible for people who work. I would suggest closing on Monday instead and opening for a full day on Sunday to improve accessibility.

Library closed some weeks on Thursday, Friday and Saturday is a poor service.
Alternate weeks Wednesdays and Saturdays would be confusing.
