Summary
The Garnock Valley Pipes & Drums are a group set up to provide free traditional music education to young people in the Garnock Valley.
The group currently engage around 30 students each week to learn the bagpipes and snare drum, from as young as primary four up to sixth year at secondary school.
This project not only allows young people to learn a new instrument completely free of charge, but also focuses on helping the attendees develop their confidence and social skills, developing their connection to one another as well as the wider community.
Description
The project runs along with term time, with lessons after school in half hour blocks for groups of up to five.
The tutors are paid at a rate of £40.50 per hour, and work a combined three hours each week.
40.50x3 = £121 per week.
This fund will provide tuition fees for our tutors. The feedback we have had from this project so far has been fantastic, and is only possible with continued funding & fundraising efforts.

Location: The Garnock Valley Pipes & Drums is a well established group that holds a great reputation within North Ayrshire and beyond. The Pipes & Drums were set up in 2017 and went on to become a very popular group, holding over 100 members in their peak in 2019. As with most things, the Covid pandemic really knocked the group, and since returning to pipe band activities in 2023, members have fallen to around 10-15 young people. Due to the success of the project previously, we know the infrastructure and potential is there to be realised once again. The group have recently established a partnership with Beith Community Development Trust who have a track record of establishing and supporting community projects to help them realise their potential. This has injected a new lease of life and support into the project with a reinvigorated passion and commitment to the cause, now engaging around 30-40 young people a week.
