Corsehill Retirement Club

2023-09-03  •  No comments  •  jhamilton8  •  Kilwinning

We are looking for funding to allow our members to celebrate Burns Day and also enable us to buy a new laptop. We are a club for retired people over 55 and we have a number of members who are over 80. This age group experience social isloation and for many this past year has seen them struggling with the cost of living. Coming to the club gives them the opportunity to engage with other people in a sociable way and gives them something to look forward to each week. It also means that we can look out for one another and ensure that especially members who live alone are having someone looking after their health and wellbeing. Throughout the year we try to celebrate national days and this usually involves food and entertainment. Again ensuring that members can look forward to a nice day out and a meal.

We would also like to buy a new laptop, which we use for our activities, such as quizzes, bingo and keep records of our budget, etc. We can also use it for research if required on certain topics and keeps us connected to the wider world. We can use it to access the internet if required by any member, who struggles with computers.

To do this we would use any funding we received for:

Burns Supper, including food, toasts, speaker and hall hire - £774

Laptop - £380 (we would use our funds for the additional £124

St Winin’s Over 60’S Club

2023-09-14  •  No comments  •  Anne Marie McMillan  •  Kilwinning

We are applying for funding to enable our over 60's club to hold a special Burns Supper.  This event would provide a beacon of light in the dark winter months when social isolation and the cost of living crisis have an even greater impact on people's health and wellbeing.  This event would bring the club together with celebration and fun.  With this funding we would be able to organise food and entertainment for this event which would make it a special day for all group members to enjoy.   Our club plays a vital role in combatting loneliness and encourages members to come along weekly to connect with others and share enjoyable experiences.  The club means so much to its members and has a real impact on people's lives in a positive way.  Any additional funding would help us to pay for the ongoing weekly letting cost of £50.

Burns Supper: including food, toasts, entertainment and hall hire-£600

Hall letting fees for 8 weeks- £400

Place Woodland and Garnock Valley Carves

  • Hire of radios and security/first aid: £500
  • Licenses: £500
  • Breakfasts and lunches for sponsors, stewards and carvers: £400
  • Hire of large marquee: £450
  • Printing of leaflets and general advertising: £600
  • Cutting the field: £500
  • Total: £6350

This does not include the cost of all the free activities we provide for children

The total cost of running the event in 2022 was over £12000

PWG have need for several items of high cost equipment and are lacking in funds

The Woodland has been running now for over 12 years as a John Muir Award Group without any real means of funding and have had to beg and borrow equipment and materials as and when they can.

PWG have need of some powered equipment in order to make life a bit easier for volunteers.

Dur to the uneven state of the ground and extensive area plus some of the heavy items needing transported, they have need for a powered barrow and as this is a high cost item it is beyond their current means.

Costs as follows:

  • Powered barrow with tracks: £1900
  • The add on shed made from recycled materials needs final waterproof roof covering, this will need 2 rolls of polyester torch on roofing felt £200 plus a propane burning torch, hose and regulator £120
  • 2 existing machines need rebuilding, estimated cost of £150
  • Total £2370

From the UKSPF PB, £2370 would be to support Place Woodland and the remaining funding from the £5000 would go towards supporting the overall costs of Garnock Valley Carves.

Three Towns Champions Discovery Award

The Three Towns Champions Discovery Award (3TCDA)

2023-09-17  •  No comments  •  Three Towns Champions Discovery Award  •  Three Towns

The project is about getting older people who are aged 50+ active, engaged socially and involved in their community. Its about increasing resilience, improve wellness and mental health and importantly having fun and trying something new. Participants can also complete A Discovery Award. This is a great way to recognise their achievements at the group. The award has 4 key sections; a Journey of Discovery visit a place of interest and share the experience, Volunteering in the Community, a Leisure Pursuit that promotes wellness and health and finally a Hobby or Interest.

Group members through the 3TCDA have volunteered and continue to volunteer at a great variety groups and projects such as Eglinton Park, a dementia friendly cafe, a community larder, a charity shop a community a cafe. Participants have also done dog walking for neighbours who are not physically able to do so. Through the Journey of Discovery participants have visited many local heritage sites and place of interest in North Ayrshire and further afield, they have shared their hobbies and interests with each other. We find that all of this raises’ members confidence and creates a sense of belonging, a spirit of positive ownership of community projects and contributes to our overall wellbeing. The project offers free or affordable activities to those in our community who otherwise may not be able to take part in these social and community opportunities because of the cost of living crisis.

As the working group for the 3TCDA we are looking for funding to ensure that we can continue to offer older people accessible, positive social, interest based and accessible opportunities in the community that they live in.

Transport costs £200

Entrance Fees - £300

Hospitality - £200

Resources for projects  - £300

Arran Kayak Club

2023-09-07  •  1 comment  •  Arran Kayak Club  •  Arran

The Club would like to be able to offer lighter paddles with a flexible feathering system.  Very simply, paddle feathering is when you adjust the two blades of your paddle so one of them is at a different angle than the other.  Some people like to have the two blades at the same angle resulting in no twisting of the wrists.  Others like to feather the blades so erducing wind resistence as you push the blade through the air, but requires wrist rotation. The paddles the Club are looking to purchase can be feathered at any angle (from )-90) so the paddler can find any position that is comfortable (including left/right handed). This is especially important to those with current wrist injuries, want to go on long journeys, or hope to paddle regularly for many years.  6 x Ainsworth Paddles Sea polycarbonate blade with glass shaft option £115 each.

The Club wants to also invest in four new buoyancy aids.  Two for adults and two for youths/children.  Buoyancy aids do deteriorate over time so a number of the ones in the Club store are due now for retirement.  Modern buoyancy aids are more streamline and less bulky, and have places for a radio to be attached to and a pocket for a safety whistle and safety knife to be stored.

2 x Yak Buoyancy Aids adult £81 each 2 x Yak Buoyancy Aids youth £68 each

Members use Club kit every Thursday evenings during the summer months, and in weekly pool session during the winter.  Members are also able to borrow Club kit for supporting local water events eg the Holy Isle race and the Lamlash Splash.
