Community Resilience Defib
Investment project code: 276
Estimated Price
£1,000
Summary
We would like funding to purchase a new defibrillator to assist with our community resilience volunteer programme. Volunteers will learn how to use it, developing their skills and building confidence.
Description
Our project will be to purchase a new defibrillator which our community volunteers will use to provide lifesaving treatment to anyone who needs it on Irvine beach and as part of our community outreach projects. Volunteers will be trained how to use the defibrillator, increasing their existing skillset around first aid, increasing resilience and building their confidence to use the lifesaving piece of equipment.
Our volunteers benefit from reduced social isolation by volunteering at Coastwatch through the day and at weekends, benefiting their health and wellbeing. Having equipment such as the defibrillator is essential to providing that service for volunteers and the public. All our volunteers learn from each other’s varying experience and Coastwatch has a sense of community spirit among the volunteers, building positive relationships within the community.
Breakdown of costs:
Mindray C1A Semi-Automatic defibrillator - £1100
Coastwatch will subsidise the additional £100 from our own funds.
Location: Coastwatch Scotland operate from the pavilion on Irvine Beach and provide an outlook for any members of the public or vessels in distress. We liaise closely with His Majesties Maritime and Coastguard Agency and Police Scotland to assist with incidents and report anything at the earliest stage possible. We also provide first aid to patrons of Irvine beach which ultimately reduces the impact on the NHS and Scottish Ambulance Service by providing first response emergency care where members of the public may panic and phone 999, we can provide care to a certain level potentially preventing unnecessary call outs for ambulances. Our volunteers are all trained in first aid and have PGVs through the organisation. The volunteer programme is open to all who wish to join and all our current volunteers feel a sense of belonging to the organisation and enjoy helping out at the beach and at community events.
