Music for Disabled Seniors At Home
1 comment Garnock Valley
The objective is to bring varied live music to older people with disabilities living in Amenity Houses - Dickson Court, Beith and Connell Court, Kilbirnie. Residents fall into the category of being disabled. At local meetings they asked if consideration could be given to "bringing concerts to their complex because they are unable to attend events elsewhere due to disablement." Our aim is to make this request come true on an experimental basis. Make a dream come true!

Our Unit is part of a larger organisation, despite this we struggle to fund outings. Annual subscriptions have recently increased to over £70 per child, which places additional pressure on families and limits what we can offer. The Unit has been running over 30 yrs, providing girls aged 7–10 with a safe space that promotes friendship, confidence and new interests. Our weekly subscription is £2.50, which helps cover basic running costs but does not stretch far enough to fund larger activities.

We are seeking funds to help inspire and facilitate local people to look after Beith Orr's Trust Park. We plan to invest in litter picking stations and organise a 'clean up the park' event. To celebrate success and recruit new volunteers we then plan to have a fun day in the park.

As part of a larger organisation, we have an annual subscription which has recently increased to over £70 per child. As a result of this we struggle to fund any educational outings, and this places additional pressure on families. The Unit tries to take part in Girlguiding activities, helping girls aged 7–10 find friendship and build confidence. Our weekly subscription is £2.50, which helps cover basic running costs but does not stretch far enough to fund larger activities.

We promote the mental and physical well-being of men and facilitate opportunities to engender friendship, eliminate loneliness, and learn new skills. We also promote external activity, providing opportunities to exercise as a group.

Our 8th Garnock Valley Carves event will be our biggest yet. Scotlands biggest free event this year will be an exhibition of extraordinary talent by 20 of Europe's top chainsaw artist. They spend 4hrs turning a tree trunk into a beautiful item, auctioned at the end of the day. They do a further quick carve in the last 30 minutes which is auctioned too, with all proceeds returning to the Garnock Valley. We've already booked over 100 stalls with 35+ being free voluntary and community stalls.
