Project Summary

Big Pi Media Collective is a not-for-profit, inter-generational volunteer media group that supports people of all ages and abilities to develop media, communication, and social skills through practical participation in real projects. Our volunteers include young people, older adults, and individuals with additional support needs, working side-by-side to tell local stories and document community events.

Project Description

To date, our work has been delivered using volunteers’ own equipment. However, demand for our services has grown significantly, and we are now being asked to produce larger and more complex community projects, including Polar Plunge 2026, the Ayrshire Community Trust Volunteer Awards 2026, Marymass and Prestfest festivals, and an inter-generational oral history project enabling older people to record their life stories for future generations.

In order to meet this increasing demand and maintain quality, accessibility, and safeguarding standards, Big Pi Media Collective now requires funding to purchase shared professional media equipment. This will allow us to deliver projects more reliably, improve production values, and ensure inclusive access for volunteers who do not have personal equipment.

Our future programme aims to integrate closely with local schools and additional support needs groups, providing meaningful opportunities for younger and older generations to work together. Through collaborative media projects, participants develop practical digital skills, communication confidence, teamwork, and mutual understanding across generations.

Funding Big Pi Media Collective will support sustainable community-led media, promote inclusion and inter-generational learning, and ensure that local stories, voices, and experiences are preserved and shared for the benefit of present and future generations.

We are looking to find some Media equipment for our volunteers to use create and learn with.  £1,000 would allow us to purchase a range of equipment to help us create more professional digital media.
