Project Summary
The Fairlie Family STEM Club will create a new monthly after-school activity for families in Fairlie, bringing children of all ages and their parents/carers together to explore Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths through fun, practical, hands-on activities. The club will be run by Fairlie Parent Council, with support from school staff, and will take place after the normal school day in Fairlie Primary School's STEM activity room.Project Description
We will establish a monthly after-school Family STEM Club, open to children of all ages and their parents/carers. The club will take place after school, using the school's STEM activity room as a venue. Although the activity will be based in the school, it will be a Parent Council-led community activity outside the school day.
Activities will be designed so that children of different ages can participate at their own level. Younger children can explore and build alongside older children and adults, while older children can take on more complex design, engineering and problem-solving challenges. The emphasis will be on learning together and having fun.
Why is it needed?Fairlie is a small village with limited facilities and organised activities for families. There are relatively few opportunities within the village where children and parents/carers can participate in an activity together after school. The Family STEM Club will address this by creating a regular monthly activity within the village, giving families somewhere local to go after school and an opportunity to spend meaningful time together. It will also make positive use of Fairlie Primary School's STEM activity room outside the normal school day, allowing an existing local facility to support wider community activity.

This project will establish a regular after-school STEM family programme in Fairlie, providing monthly opportunities for children, parents and carers to learn, create and explore together. Through engaging, hands-on activities, families will develop creativity, curiosity, problem-solving skills and confidence, while building stronger relationships and learning from one another. The programme will also strengthen community connections by bringing local families together, make positive use of the school's STEM activity room outside school hours, and invest in reusable resources that will deliver lasting benefits to the community for years to come.
We particularly want to show children that STEM is not just something that happens during the school day or in a classroom. It can be creative, exciting, practical and something that families can enjoy together.
How will the £1,000 be spent?

We will seek good-value equipment and, where possible, purchase durable resources that can be used repeatedly rather than spending the funding on one-off activities.
Who will benefit?
The club will be open to children of all ages and their parents/carers in Fairlie. The mixed-age approach will allow siblings to participate together and means families do not need to choose activities based on the age of individual children. Adults will be encouraged to participate alongside the children, making this a genuine family learning and community activity rather than a children's drop-off club.
Community involvement
The project is being led by Fairlie Parent Council in response to the needs and interests of local families. Families will be encouraged to suggest future activities and STEM challenges, helping shape the programme. The club will therefore remain community-led, inclusive and responsive to local families.

Location: Fairlie Primary School is located on the west coast between the town of Largs and West Kilbride and serves the children and families of the village. Fairlie has relatively few local facilities and activities for families, so the club will provide a regular opportunity to spend quality family time within the village while developing children's confidence, creativity, curiosity and problem-solving skills.
