Garnock Valley Carves

Garnock Valley Carves No comments Garnock Valley

Summary

Our 8th Garnock Valley Carves event will be our biggest yet. Scotlands biggest free event this year will be an exhibition of extraordinary talent by 20 of Europe's top chainsaw artist. They spend 4hrs turning a tree trunk into a beautiful item, auctioned at the end of the day. They do a further quick carve in the last 30 minutes which is auctioned too, with all proceeds returning to the Garnock Valley. We've already booked over 100 stalls with 35+ being free voluntary and community stalls.

Description

Our annual event will achieve it's 9th year in 2027. Founded by a local man with a huge heart, he asked, me to take over in 2025. Last year I had little notice and heavy rain throughout, yet we still made it a success and returned over £3500 to the local community groups and organisations. This year we've already donated over £1000 of stalls and over £500 to local groups too.

With our biggest event yet, we will have 40 items being auctioned, as well as some of our carvers already donating items to the 2 local hospices and MacMillan Cancer too. Each year we donate to many local groups, supporting youths, adults and those with special needs too. Our event is self funded, run by volunteers only and costs around £12000 to put the event on. Thankfully to date, we have achieved this through funds raised in previous years and via the Neighbourhood Watch Scotland.

Our logs and transport will cost around £2000 in 2026, previously £1400 in 2025 with only 14 carvers. Our carvers are invited to join us, however this does cost the event £4000 this year (@only £200 per carver, this is cheap - often around £4-500). Our setup costs for marquee hire and flooring (as we got drowned last year) will exceed £2600.

We are often criticised for not having much for the kids, so this year, GVC are ensuring we have included many free activities for the children, some being donated by our suppliers and some supported by us - Over £1500 so far.

Our event has become an established date in the calendar now for families from the Garnock Valley and beyond too. Now that we are getting better known, coupled with considerable efforts from myself and our senior team, we are seeing our volunteer numbers strengthening, although we do have to consider costs too, as we feed them during setup and on the day itself - around £350 will be spent to keep our volunteers and stewards refreshed. This is not just food, it is for gazebo's to shelter should it be required, generators, tables and seating, etc.

If we receive PB Funding for 2027, this will go marquee hire. We have only submitted this application and have not received any PB funding in the past three years at least.
