Summary

Branded drumheads advertise Largs and boost recruitment. Grant funding for reeds and sticks cuts personal costs, removing financial barriers and keeping music participation accessible.

Description

Largs and District Pipe Band is a newly formed community pipe band dedicated to keeping the art and culture of traditional pipe band music alive across the Ayrshire North Coast. Our core focus is creating an inclusive, safe, and welcoming space for people of all backgrounds and demographics who wish to continue playing, sharing, and performing pipe band music.

The Pipe Band serves a purpose far beyond music: it acts as a lifeline against social isolation and loneliness, bringing people together in a friendly, supportive environment. We currently have members aged 12 to late 70s, and our band tutors are additionally providing tuition to 9 under-12s free of charge.

Custom logo bass drumheads would raise the profile of the band, act as a focal point for recruitment, and advertise the band and the town of Largs at local events like Armistice and Viking Parades and competitions in the wider area. Reeds for the instruments are a costly consumable for each piper, as are drumsticks and the ability to provide reeds and sticks to players would be of great benefit and help to reduce personal expenditure and prevent barriers to music participation.

Cost Justification

  • Graphic Design & Custom Skins (£645.00 total): Transforming the bass drum into a focal point for recruitment and local advertising requires print-ready high-resolution vector graphics. Printing both sides of the bass drum ensures 360-degree visibility during parades, galas, and competitions.

  • 15 sets of Reeds (£210.00): Pipe chanter reeds are consumable items that must be replaced regularly. Providing these directly to players removes a major personal financial barrier and keeps group participation free and accessible.

  • 6 pairs of KP2 Drumsticks (£99.00): KP2 sticks are the industry standard for pipe band snare drummers. Providing equipment to drummers ensures consistent tone across the drum corps while reducing out-of-pocket costs for members.
