Project Summary

We are currently running some pilot project to encourage local youths to have a more active lifestyle. The funding will assist us to keep the activities going into the new year and beyond . We run activity sessions on our astro pitch after school and aslo run a Kids Fun Club every Friday evening form 5-7pm which has about 30 participants.

Project Description

Our project involves geting local children aged from 5-12 involved in a more active lifestyle. To assist in this aim we carried out a survey involving local residents  and asked  what services could we provide that they would use and and over 57% of participants said there was a lack of activities for young children.A lack of local activities was highlighted by 65.1%, pointing to a gap in accessible and inclusive opportunities. The survey shiwed there was strong concern about opportunities for young people, both in terms of structured activity and long-term life direction. Examples:

  • “More stuff for young people to do to help combat antisocial behaviour.”
  • “Education for adults/teens that have left school. Subsidised sports and/or hobbies for school-age kids.”

We then invited local children to Winton Park and htey informed us they wanted a Kids Club and they aslo wanted to be able to play games on the astro pitch. We have started these clubs as pilot projects but now need fundinig to maintain them. the Kids Club runs on a Friday evening from 5-7 pm and has now got 30 members who regularly attend. The club provides activities such as board games, jigsaws and arts n crafts. We also provide a fun sesison on the astro pitch where kids participate in multi sports games of their chosing. After each of these activities we provide the kids with a meal and drinks. Additional funding will allow us to maintian these activities and to ad dfurhter activities at other times during the week to give kids even more chosen activities.
