Project Summary
The Duke of Edinburgh group is young people within Greenwood Academy who are completing the award. This funding will benefit the young people and the local community as they develop their interpersonal skills.Project Description
Duke of Edinburgh helps to develop young peoples' confidence and wilderness skills. It is an amazing opportunity which also encourages young people to volunteer in the local community as one of the four sections.
Last year 30 pupils participated in the Duke of Edinburgh Award and this year the number has nearly tripled to 85. The equipment we have has damage due to wear and tear adn also we do not have the quantitty needed to allow all of these young people to partcipate in the award. We are also aware that we live in an area of high deprivation and some young people would be unable to afford to buy the specific equipment needed to participate in the wilderness experience.
We are looking for funding to give the experience to all young people as this would offer equity to all.
Sleeping Bags- £85 x5= £425
Walking Boots £57.50 x 10= £575
How have young people been involved in shaping this project?
I am one of the young people who have completed my Bronze and Silver and am looking to give back to the school for the experience I gained from completing the course. The award allowed me to build my resilience and confidence. The award also helps us with our Health and Wellbeing. I have included past expeditions and some pictures of the volunteering in the community.
