Project Summary

Our Parent Council have been working with the children to enhance and encourage engagement in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) by creating opportunities for hands-on learning and collaborative exploration. To do this we have identified and created a dedicated space for children to learn and grow in the STEAM environment. To develop this further we need to purchase appropriate resources targeting each element to allow children to thrive in this area.

Project Description

The parent council, have worked closely with the pupils of Lawthorn Primary by engaging in meetings with class representatives and gaining an overall understanding of the requirements from each year group and what STEAM resource looks like to them.  By the year 2030, 60% of the world’s workforce will require upskilling in the STEAM elements.  We aim to start this at Primary age to ensure our children have a head start going into further education and eventually the workplace.   Historically,  Lawthorn Primary has had limited space and resource, however due to this years demographics a dedicated space has been made available with a teaching team on hand.  The STEAM class representatives have asked young people what they would like to see and they have asked for £1265.55 (inclusive of VAT)

This money would buy:

These items will:

*  Provide a purpose-built STEAM learning space that can change the school by encouraging creativity, getting students more involved and helping them learn skills that will be useful in the real world.

* Give young people the chance to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Maths while also building confidence, teamwork and a mindset that will prepare them for the future.

* More involvement through learning that is interactive and hands-on.

*  Enhanced teaching

The young people involved in the project said “We feel that this would be a great chance for us and the parent council to help us in our goal of having a dedicated STEAM classroom with the resources we have asked for.  The parent council have listened to what we need, and we have really enjoyed being part of this application.”

By voting for this bid it ensures that UNCRCs Article 29 'Goals of Education', education must develop every childs personalities, talents and abilities to the full.

How have young people been involved in shaping this project?
