Project Summary

We are a local youth football team that provides opportunity for over thirty boys from Largs, West Kilbride and the three towns of Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston to play football in an inclusive environment where we not only focus on sport but also very much on building strong friendships and positive behaviour.

Project Description

Within the team we have a visually impaired goalkeeper who is very much an integral part of the team. In spite of his additional challenges he is a fantastically talented player and gains so much from being part of the team, as do all of the other boys.   

To enable him to play with the team we train and play with bright pink footballs which he finds easier to distinguish. Unfortunately he is now dindibg it a challenge to play in his existing glasses and they have been broken (and subsequently repaired) on a number of occasions.   

In this application we are requesting support with the cost of special sports glasses, and new pink footballs which to aid his involvement in the team.   

The cost of the glasses are £310 and would be a challenge for his family. And new pink training balls for the team would be £156 for 20.   

The team is run with the principle that we try and make the monthly cost minimal, and we cover as much as we can with fundraising to limit the impact on parents. So this money to aid one of our team members will make a huge difference to not only him and his family but also on the other boys who value his involvement immensely.
