Kids Breakfast Club - Whitlees and Ardeer Partnership

2025-09-08  •  No comments  •  Whitlees centre  •  Community Wealth Building PB

We would make this a mirror image of how it works at Whitlees . Kids would come in the morning each day and have a choice of ceral or toast free and maybe the next day toast and pancakes for free along with fruit, yoghurt and juice. We also do rolls for £1 so if kids still want to buy a roll that's great but if not there's plenty there for breakfast.

Costs

50 kids per day

bread x 4 - £3.40

cereal x2 £4.00

milk x 3 £4.00

flour x2 £1 /50

eggs per box £3

Yogurt c50  £20

fruit £20

-- £56.90 a week

x 5 day -- £284.50

7 week program =£1991.50

This is the program we use at Whitlees so to pilot this program we asking for £1991.50

(£36 per day)

This will be part of our bigger cafe project at Ardeer and supporting the kids to use the club will help encourage the community to use the cafe and help bring income back into the centre again.

Access for All: Inclusive Improvements at Merksworth Park, Dalry

2025-09-12  •  No comments  •  EFairns  •  Garnock Valley

At present we do not have access to the ground for our disabled and wheelchair user supporters due to uneven ground, lack of ramps and broken steps. We are looking to remove a ticket gate which would give access from the back car park, fix the broken steps and put in a ramp. This would give access to a sheltered area in the stand which would provide an ideal viewing area. This area would need to be highlighted and marked off with tape/paint.

Cost for this would be £1820.

Upskilling the Kilbirnie Sew And Sews

  1. Transport to the SEC show in March 2026. Average of quotes £450 A lot of our members do not drive anymore and public transport to the SEC is not direct. Hiring a mini bus and driver means these members are included which makes a big difference to the whole group. The Scottish Quilting Show is the only one left in Scotland and we would like to support it with our attendance as much as possible. The show provides inspiration and generates ideas. There are workshops that can be signed up for which build skills.
  2. Engaging a tutor to give us a workshop. Estimate £400.  The group has had workshop providers in the past and would like to have the again. Having a tutor come to us means that all members are included. These workshops will build skills and provide inspiration.
  3. Materials so that members can present a workshop and everyone has materials provided. £150  This allows long standing members to share their knowledge and experise. This is very good for all concerned as it values the skills in the group. The cost of fabric has risen and whilst we reuse and recycle as much as we can in our quilts, sometimes it is appropriate to have materials that co-ordinate and are pre-prepared for a workshop.

The group was set up after 3 men in their 40s got back into their teenage hobby of painting warhammer miniatures during the Covid Lockdown and reconnected on social media.  Each of them suffered from social anxiety and found reintegrating extremely difficult. Now in our 2nd year we have gone from 9 members in our first week to 40 regular members, with an average of 20 attending each week. Our fortnightly group quickly became weekly due to demand and has become a very busy and lively social gathering. Our members build miniature models, paint them at our painting station, and play games including Warhammer 40k, Age of Sigmar, Killteam and Warcry.

Many of our members are new to the games when they first begin attending and do not have their own equipment and we have been extremely pleased to be able to provide all of the required equipment to allow people to play and attend who may not have the financial means to purchase their own equipment. However as the group continues to grow so does the demand for equipment.  At our AGM our members expressed an interest in trying new games alongside the regular Warhammer games and we now have a list of requests which we would love to be able to provide for our members to play.

The Games we would like to provide include: Humblewood Tales, Pathfinder adventure, Dungeons & Dragons, Magic The Gathering, Azul, Everdell, Destinies, Cascadia, Ticket to Ride, Mysterium, Arkham Horror, Masters of the Universe, Dominion, Star Realms, Hero Realms, Fallout, Aliens, Catan, Bristol 1350, Salem 1692, Deadwood 1876 Total Cost £849

Providing these games would open the group up to more people who may not enjoy Wargames but would love a social group to sit and relax while playing a fun game. We also provide free refreshments so would like to apply for £150 towards drinks and snacks for our members to help ensure nobody goes home hungry.

Home for a new Film Club

A Film Club for everyone!

2025-08-31  •  No comments  •  Angie McCallum  •  Community Wealth Building PB

A Film Club would provide opportunities for the commuity to come together, for cutural and educational benefits.  What was once the old cinema could once again deliver many different genres of film.  As the new building is totally accessible everybody will be able to participate.  There could be screenings individually for children, for those suffering with dementia, for those who would revel in the old stories of the Clyde and the tales of Para Handy, for families. These are just a few examples.

A consultant would research this local innovation to provide a clear strategy and guidelines to be developed for future use by those taking the project foward.

A self employed consultant at 8 hours per week for ten weeks at £15 per hour would cost £1,080 - see role profile below for further information.

We would like to apply for a funding amount of £1000. If successful in our application, this would enable us to provide a summer bus outing for the residents, with the remainder being used towards funding our annual lunch and party, which is attended by approximately 30 residents. These events have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of residents and provide an opportunity to take part in activities that might not be available to people due to mobility or cost of living ussues.

The cost of the bus would be £480 and the remaining £520 would be used towards the cost of lunch and live entertainment for our party.

  • Bus Hire - £480
  • Lunch x 30 - £450
  • Entertainment fee - £70

Friends of Redburn

Our sewing and craft group - The Canny Crafters, offers a welcoming space where people of all ages and abilities can come together every week to learn new skills, share knowledge, and enjoy creative activities. The group helps improve wellbeing by providing a relaxing outlet that reduces stress and gives members a sense of purpose and achievement. It also builds confidence as people develop new skills or mentor and help others and take pride in completing their own or group projects. Just as importantly, it reduces social isolation by bringing people together, helping them form friendships and feel more connected to their community. The group encourages intergenerational learning, with younger and older members exchanging skills and experiences, and creates opportunities for people to give back through handmade items that can be kept, donated or sold by the group. The group improves members mental health, strengthens community ties, and provides a supportive environment where people of all ages can thrive.

At the moment there are around 10 members registered who come along weekly or on an ad hoc basis.

To enable the group to offer a wide range of projects throughout the year and be able to invite different crafters the group would like to apply for funding to allow them to buy new resources and some machines which can be used multiple times throughout the life of the project and invite external crafters to come in and demonstrate new crafting experiences for the group to try.

Breakdown of costs

Sewing machines x 2/3   = £300.00

Hand held knitting machines x 4 = £100.00

Threads / Wool / knitting & crochet materials - £150.00

Arts / Craft resources - £100.00

External groups coming to demonstrate and offer new experinces - £300

Largs Food Hub - Hot Food Subsidy

2025-09-23  •  No comments  •  NACAdmin  •  Official position 1  •  Community Wealth Building PB

The new owners of Largs Post Office and Tea in The Square approached Committee of Largs Food Hub to offer support in the way of providing a hot breakfast roll/hot lunch at an affordable price for members of the Food Hub as they had heard of the work the Food Hub did and wanted to contribute something to the local community.  Tea in The Square will provide vouchers for a breakfast roll or hot lunch and a hot drink at a cost of £6 each.  The Food Hub would like to pilot this proposal and, if successful, seek further funding to continue the project.  As a progression, Tea in The Square are willing to hold Cookery Workshops for Food Hub Members, showing them how to make the most of the food they can get from the Food Hub.  Tea in The Square will provide the Chef and kitchen for workshops to take place.

This project will also help Food Hub members to socially interact with others as well as provide them with a hot meal.

Many of our members are afraid to use gas/electricity in their homes, therefore they cannot afford the luxury of a hot breakfast or hot meal during the winter months.  The owners of Tea in the Square are happy to work in partnership with the Food Hub by supplying vouchers for a breakfast roll/hot lunch and a hot drink.  Cost of the vouchers will be subsidised by The Food Hub to make the purchase affordable for its members.  It is intended that, rather than members paying money for the vouchers, they would use some of their allocation of points for the Food Hub to 'purchase' the vouchers.  Meals in Tea in the Square Cafe would be supplied at a cost of £6.  The cost of these would be met by The Food Hub.  Vouchers will be offered to members at a 'cost' of 6 points, which is equivalent to £3 as each point is worth 50p.

There are currently over 150 members registered with The Food Hub. Members range from single people, couples and families.  We would like to purchase 300 vouchers at a cost of £6 each.
