Friends of Lochshore Park

2025-09-19  •  No comments  •  Andrew Evans  •  Garnock Valley

We have organised various free events for the public, including community litter picks, habitat creation for ground-nesting bees, spring bulb planting and willow weaving courses.  These events provide opportunities for like-minded individuals to socialise while improving the ecology of the park and facilities for park visitors. Our Wellbeing in Nature Day in June, supported by local organisations, featured nature walks, guided meditation, and mindfulness activities, promoting the potential of Lochshore Park to positively impact individual and community health. Since our last application, we have experienced significant growth, doubled our membership and increased our Facebook following ten-fold to over three hundred. Over the past year, we have established productive partnerships with the Scottish Wildlife Trust, Ayrshire Nectar Network, and TCV. In each case we have relied on their expertise to support our projects.

With a Proportional Budgeting grant, we would invest in support for our members and part fund projects which further attract the public to participate in outdoor activities. We have already completed a woodland walk with picnic area, a yoga/meditation area overlooking the loch and we aspire to install a bird hide. Funding would allow our group would visit the Loch Lomond Faerie Trail in Luss, with the aim of drawing inspiration for the development of our own fairy trail within our Enchanted Forest; enhance our Wellbeing in Nature Day next year with the inclusion of musical groups, and help acquire a small trailer and hire a quad bike to help with transport of bulky material round the park.

Group visit (hire of minibus, entry and snack) £400

Wellbeing in Nature Day Music £200

Hire of quad bike with tow bar (£50 per day) £100

Second hand trailer (£400)

The David White Hub (Sheltered Housing)

We would like to apply for a funding amount of £1000. If successful in our application, this would enable us to provide a summer bus outing for the residents, with the remainder being used towards funding our annual lunch and party, which is attended by approximately 30 residents. These events have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of residents and provide an opportunity to take part in activities that might not be available to people due to mobility or cost of living ussues.

The cost of the bus would be £480 and the remaining £520 would be used towards the cost of lunch and live entertainment for our party.

  • Bus Hire - £480
  • Lunch x 30 - £450
  • Entertainment fee - £70

We are applying for funding to enable our over 60's club to hold a Burns Supper and an afternoon tea.  These events would provide a beacon of light in the dark winter months when social isolation and the cost-of-living crisis have an even greater impact on people's health and wellbeing.  These events would bring the club together with celebration and fun.  With this funding we would be able to organise food and entertainment for each event, this would make them special for all group members to enjoy.   Our club plays a vital role in combatting loneliness and encourages members to come along weekly to connect with others and share enjoyable experiences.  The club means so much to its members and has a real impact on people's lives in a positive way.

North Ayrshire Tandem Cycling

2025-09-10  •  1 comment  •  Andrew Lannigan  •  Kilwinning

NATC was formed to give Vision Impaired people in our community, and beyond, the opportunity to be able to cycle with the aid of a fully sighted Pilot. The age range of our members is 30yrs – 83yrs. NATC is not only for the Vision Impaired, we accept applications from the wider community over the age of 18yrs, ie, people that has mental health issues, people that are isolated at home on their own. NATC gives these people a sense of belonging and Inclusion, Cycling improves physical fitness and mental health, the social aspect of our group alone brings people out of the Isolation that many in our community suffer from. NATC makes use of the many Cycle Paths in and around Ayrshire which makes for a safe riding experience for our members.

Tandem bikes are an expensive commodity to upkeep. Spares such as Tyres, Spare Tubes, Puncture repair kits and associated tools, Secure Parking Locks can be a constant drain on our limited resources for our 14 Tandems.

Tyres at….£28 each…7 required = £196

Tubes at £5.40 each…28 required = £ 151

Puncture repair kits a £7.50 each…14 Required = £105

Tool Kits at £12.50 each…14 Required = £175

Secure Parking Locks at £27 each...14 Required = £378

We run regular sessions with creative, social, and wellbeing-focused activities, offering opportunities for people to build friendships, express themselves, and feel supported. To continue our work, we are applying for £1,000, which will be used as follows:

  • Arts & crafts materials – £350: to run creative sessions that encourage self-expression and build confidence.
  • Community day trip – £450: covering transport and entry fees, giving participants the chance to share positive new experiences.
  • Lunches & refreshments – £200: ensuring sessions are welcoming and inclusive, with no one excluded due to cost.

This funding will enable us to run meaningful activities that directly improve mental health, wellbeing, and community connection.

Largs Music Club

2025-09-03  •  No comments  •  Tom Stewart  •  North Coast and Cumbraes

We are applying for £1000 to cover the essential costs of musical instruments, repairs, and accessories such as replacement strings, drumsticks, reeds, and other small but vital items that ensure instruments can be played and maintained. Having reliable instruments in good condition is crucial for our members, particularly those who cannot afford to buy or repair their own.

This funding will directly benefit a wide range of people in our community, from younger adults taking their first steps into music to elderly people looking to reconnect with a passion; LMC is for those who want a positive and creative outlet. By removing barriers to participation, we make sure that everyone—regardless of experience, age, or financial means—feels empowered to take part and grow in confidence.

We believe this idea deserves to be funded because music has a powerful impact on wellbeing, community spirit, and self-expression. By supporting LMC you’ll be helping us to give more people the chance to learn, collaborate, and find joy in making music together. With this investment, we can continue building an inclusive space where creativity flourishes, friendships form, and the next generation of musicians feel encouraged and inspired.

The previous year has taught me that we will likely spend at least £500 this next year in replacement strings and reeds (which range in costs depending on the instrument, but can cost £20 per set).

Im also aware of a few individuals who are saving to buy a second hand instrument to join us, and with funding I will insist the club pay for those to assist greater inclusivity. This means that the club owns the instruments and that others can play them. A recent example of this was our purchase of a mandolin for £100, which several Regulars enjoy learning. Going forward, I aim to provide more brass instruments, including a trumpet, which a few would-be members have enquired about. A quick scan of Ebay tells me that I will likely need to commit at least £100 to this.

We would propose to buy a Yonex badminton set which includes 20 rackets, 6 packs of plastic shuttles, 2 nets and a robust carry case for all items. This is sold as a packaged set and is much better value than buying the items separately.
