Project Summary

We are a group of retirees, mostly in our 70's and 80's who practice yoga weekly. We are also a social and support group, offering support to one another in times of stress, loneliness and/or isolation. We would like to organise a theatre trip in early 2026 to help combat winter blues.

Project Description

We are a yoga and support group who have been going for almost 20 years.  Many of our members and now into their 70's and 80's but  are still actively involved in yoga practice.  Yoga helps enormously with strength, balance and flexibility as well as mindfulness. This is important in our advancing years.  We have social outings such as  coffee meetups, lunch or an outing to combat the feeling of loneliness and isolation incurred when people have ailing partners or indeed become widowed. Being sensory impaired also causes much loneliness and isolation. We have one member who is registered blind and several who are registgered as hearing impaired.  We would love to arrange a theatre trip early in 2026 to help conbat winter blues.

25 people benefitted from the funding. The funding enables us to hire a bus to take us to Ayr Gaiety theatre and back home safely at night. Feedback from the group: - My comment would be .. we are a dedicated yoga group and we love how in older age it keeps us mentally and physically well in a disciplined way but our leisure outings to the theatre or cinema creates greater and closer friendships which is especially welcome to many of us who live alone with families scattered far and wide . - Being a member of our yoga group, is a live saver for me, as suffering sight loss one can feel isolated, but every member of the group have become friends, and always there to help me get around, also our outings to the theatre, or cinema, is also fantastic as transport can be provided and no one is left alone to travel home, hopefully we will continue to enjoy our weekly sessions with our wonderful teacher Lynne, who is so proud of all of us, Tuesdays are so so special, for our wonderful group. - “ you’ve got a friend in me “ That’s our Yoga Club ! X - Our long-established Yoga Group is unique in as much as we are supported by a team of people who care and members who are confident in their care. The benefits are many. Keeping fit both physically and mentally and knowing that we are among friends and this is also reflected in our wellbeing for looking forward to social days out theatre visits and nice lunches which are arranged at a reduced cost due to any financial support we receive. Most of us have been members for years and supported each other through happy and sad times and that speaks for itself. xx - I am a carer. The mental and physical benefits of yoga and the social outings are a lifeline. xx - A great class to keep us motivated to exercise as we age. Theatre or meals out always nice to look forward to & coach hire at night much appreciated for our safe return. Good friendship & support for our mental wellbeing and physical health xx - I can’t think of anything better to write than what ‘s been said ..apart from being very thankful x - Our yoga group has become an important part of my life. It supports my mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing, and the friendships and social outings give me a real sense of connection and something to look forward to in retirement. - I look forward to yoga every week, as they are a friendly group. Living alone it’s lovely to have company for outings such as theatre and cinema. All good for the mind and body - I would be lost without my yoga class and friends
