Ancient Society of Kilwinning Archers

We are looking for help with funding to purchase new beginners equipment and targets to allow us to continue to provide beginners courses for anyone over the age of 9 years old. Our beginner's course is a 6 week program to introduce people to the sport of archery. Archery is one of the most inclusive and accessible sports for people of all ages and abilities.

Any funding we are allocated would be used for new beginners equipment and targets to replace worn and outdated equipment.

A full beginners set up costs around £300 and a single target can cost up to £360. We as a club have just invested in 6 full kits. We are looking to purchase 3 new targets to replace worn out ones that are over ten years old. With any extra funding going to purchase extra limbs for the new beginners bows to allow us to tailor them more to each individual archer.  Any funding would be a great help in affording us the ability to bring our sport to a greater number of the local community.

Archery has many proven benefits for health and wellbeing, some of which are:

Physical exercise: Archery can burn calories and tone muscles in your arms, back, chest, hands, and rotator cuffs.

Mental health: Archery  is proven to provide a meditative state of mind which can help you relax, decrease stress, and improve your mood. It can also help you focus on the present moment and ignore distractions.

Social benefits: Archery can be a social sport where you can make friends with like-minded people.

Self-confidence: Seeing yourself progress can help build your confidence. Coordination and balance: Archery requires focus and concentration.

Three of our current junior members have progressed from novice archers to competing at a club and local level and progressed even further to compete at a national level representing Scotland as under 21s. Two of those have also represented Scotland at senior level being selected for the national team at the Home Nations Championships.

We have provided 'come and try' sessions, at local schools, and our own archery range. Mainly in association with KA Leisure (North Ayrshire Council), but sometimes at the request of other organisations such as local Scout groups. We also provide archery sessions for Clan Hunter gatherings, at the Hunterston Estate.

Football trips and camps - we would love to give our parents and young players the opportunity to experience football trips and camps out with our local community. The money will be used to ensure that all young people are able to take part and no one will be left behind. This will take the burden often felt by parents and allow young people to have the same experiences regardless of their parents financial income. We are looking to enter the team into several tournaments where they will compete against higher opposition which in turn will help them develop and become better players.

Tournament fees £200 (per tournament)

Bus hire: £200

Estimated total: £600

Equipment - We are also keen to provide our young players with top of the range training equipment such as: footballs, cones, goals, hurdles and bibs. The current resources we have are dated and well used which does our team a disservice. By upgrading our equipment we feel it gives our team a better chance to improve and better their skills.

Estimated total: £200

Football Strips - We have recently recruited some new players as we transition from 9's to 11 aside which leaves us short of kit for all the new recruits. We would like to purchase new kit packs for our players so they feel like a full member of our team.

Estimated cost: £200

Dance Depot Lyrical Sqaud

Dance Depot Lyrical Squad - DDLS

2024-09-10  •  No comments  •  Caroline  •  Kilwinning

The Dance Depot Lyrical Squad is part of Tracy Finlay’s Dance Depot, a welcoming and inclusive dance school in Kilwinning that provides local children aged 5-18 the chance to explore dance in a fun, friendly, and affordable environment. The school’s focus is on making dance accessible to everyone, and the competition team offers an opportunity for those who want to take their dancing further to experience the excitement and discipline of performing at a competitive level.

Although the Dance Depot is primarily a recreational school, the DDLS competition team competes in national competitions, with over 35 local dancers proudly representing Ayrshire and Scotland. One of the key events is the Blackpool Winter Gardens competition in March 2025, where the dancers showcase the results of their dedication and hard work from the season. This experience is a highlight for the dancers, allowing them to perform on a prestigious stage and enjoy the thrill of competition.

However, participating in these competitions involves significant costs, including entry fees, costumes, and travel. The Dance Depot is committed to keeping these opportunities accessible for all its dancers, regardless of financial background, by covering costs like the £80 entry fee per dancer for Blackpool through fundraising and community support.

The Youth PB grant would go directly towards these entry fees, ensuring that no dancer misses out due to financial constraints. The aim is to keep the competitive experience open to everyone, allowing all dancers in our community to build confidence, develop teamwork, and gain valuable life skills through dance.

By supporting The Dance Depot Lyrical Squad, the Youth PB grant will massively contribute to help make these experiences possible, empowering young people to grow and thrive in a supportive environment. The Dance Depot’s commitment to accessibility and inclusivity ensures that every dancer has the chance to shine, build lifelong memories, and enrich their community through the joy of dance.

We are looking to use the funds to enable us to become a more established group and to buy resources that we can use to make stuff that help us stand out such as tshirts, badges ect.   Our main aim is to buy resources such as arts equipment and distraction tools that we can create a calming box for other care experienced young people in our locality/school that we can give out which also can include information on our group to let them know we are here for them but we would also include print out's that may be helpful to them in their care journey.

Young Sports Leaders Supported by the Parent Council

2024-09-12  •  No comments  •  CNess  •  Kilwinning

The funds would allow the school to purchase new sports equipment for our young move & improve leaders to be able to deliver lunchtime sports clubs as well as support our afterschool clubs lead by active schools’ volunteers.

We wish to continue with the success of our extra-curricular clubs.  The funds would allow us to pay for transport to take teams and classes to upcoming tournaments which are organised by North Ayrshire Active Schools. We would add to our existing sports kit to allow the children to be identified and part of the team.

The school have Young Sports Leaders who have responsibility for promoting physical activity in the playground.  The children undertook training in playground games and have requested playground equipment to fully engage all the children in the school.  The fund would be used to purchase this equipment. The children will work closely with North Ayrshire’s Active Schools Coordinator to successfully deliver their lunchtime clubs, which will run each day for the rest of the academic year.

Physical and mental health and wellbeing is always at the heart of St. Lukes’ agenda.  Afterschool sports clubs are an excellent way to engage children in physical activity and improve their health and mental well-being.  Exposing children to sports and physical activity in an afterschool environment encourages them to explore the sport in the community and strengthens the pathways into the sport.  It is hoped that that the afterschool clubs will encourage more children to participate in sport and thus increase their physical fitness.  Due to the cost-of-living crisis, after school clubs are the only opportunity that some children have to participate in sports.

Through this fund we wish to improve aspects of fitness and develop personal and interpersonal skills and attributes.  We want to enable learners to develop the concepts and skills necessary for participation in a wide range of physical activity, sport and outdoor learning and enhance their physical wellbeing in preparation for leading a fulfilling, active and healthy lifestyle.

The school’s Young Sports Leaders (Primary 6 and 7 pupils) are involved in this application through providing their opinion on the after-school clubs they wish to have established. The have selected the equipment needed for their lunchtime ‘Playground Games’ club.

Sports equipment - £300

School sports kit - £200

Buses to sporting events - £500

TOTAL - £1000

We wish to continue with the success of the football afterschool club for girls and boys from Primary 5-7, this club would run for the rest of the academic year.  The funds would allow us to pay for transport to take the football team to upcoming tournaments which are organised by North Ayrshire Council Active Schools. We would like to purchase new kit to update our old kit from the 1980’s.

We would use some of the fund to pay a netball coach to establish a netball after school club.  Following consultation with the pupils from St. Winnings’ Primary this was a sport that the children showed a high level of interest in.  Netball tournaments are organised by north Ayrshire council and the funds would enable us to pay for buses for the children to attend.

Following the success of the Dance Club last session, the children are very keen to continue this.  The children took part in the Day of Dance last year and we would love to provide this opportunity again and allow them to compete at the regional competition held by active schools.

The school have Young Sports Leaders who have responsibility for promoting physical activity in the playground.  The children undertook training in playground games and have requested playground equipment in order to fully engage all the children in the school.  The fund would be used to purchase this equipment. The children will work closely with North Ayrshire’s Active Schools Coordinator to successfully deliver their lunchtime clubs, which will run each day for the rest of the academic year.
