Garnock Valley Pipes and Drums

2024-09-11  •  No comments  •  GarnockValleyPipesandDrums  •  Garnock Valley

Our aim is to use the funding to extend our music provision within the local community.

By providing this free programme, we are making the project more inclusive and accessible to all, regardless of socio-economic or geographical barriers. This creates a sense of belonging and encourages community development as participants work together, learn from each other, and take pride in their achievements.

Weekly music lessons will provide structured, high-quality tuition that enhances pupils' cognitive skills, such as memory, focus, and discipline, while fostering creativity. Learning an instrument is known to improve academic performance across a range of subjects, contributing to the pupils' overall educational development.

The programme is directly aligned with the preservation and promotion of Scottish cultural traditions. By teaching young people the chanter and snare drum, which are integral to Scottish heritage, we are ensuring that these traditions are passed on to future generations, fostering a lifelong appreciation for Scotland’s rich cultural history.

In summary, this funding will allow us to make a significant contribution to the educational and cultural landscape of the Garnock Valley, ensuring that all pupils can benefit from the power of music education, while supporting community cohesion and the preservation of Scottish heritage.

The funding we are applying for would be spent as follows:

£972 for tutor costs. This would provide a total of 24 tutor hours @£40.50/ hour ensuring that 40 young people could access free chanter and snare drumming tuition.

£28 to provide snacks for a small celebration at the end of the 6 week block.

63rd Ayrshire Scout Group

2024-09-18  •  No comments  •  63rd Ayrshire Scouts  •  Garnock Valley

As a group we would love to offer the children the opportunity to go on a field trip where they have the chance to work, play and learn in a safe, friendly and inclusive environment with their peers. We have a number of younger children with hidden disabilities and being with other children they develop their confidence and the older children learn the skills and the responsibilities of mentoring.  This is the youth and future of the Garnock Valley and watching the relationships build and grow outwith of our group is a special bond.

Some of the children in our group do not  have the opportunity, due to the cost of living crisis, to broaden their life experiences outwith their immediate environment.  Attending a fun day with friends would boost morale and their mental wellbeing.  We would also be looking at providing a nutritious meal to all attending, promoting the importance of healthy eating.

The costing for the trip to the Clyde Valley Farm Park would be

Coach hire £600

Entry cost £400

Total £1000

We hope that you will consider our application favourably and look forward to hearing from you in due course.⁹

We the Garnock Valley Youth Forum help empower young people’s voices in the Garnock Valley. We do this by having young people lead activities and supporting the other youth groups in the area with whatever they need. we fundraise money for young people including this funding application we also do fundraisers for charity Aswell. To help support the young people in the Garnock Valley we want to update our youth meeting/nurture room as it has recently had a roof leak and our room is damaged and outdated and have some cooking sessions to help young people gain new life skills.  the things we would like to get if we are successful are:

New seating as the old seating is long past its sell-by date and needs to be updated to help create a safe and nurturing environment £300

Equipment to re-paint the walls including paint as there has been water damage and it is mouldy, £100

A sensory box it will help support our young people's focus and help reduce stress using a grounding technique. £100

Supplies and resources for the cooking session: to help young people gain skills for life and support them and their families in the ongoing cost of living crisis this will include updating our Kitchen. £500

These new things will benefit any young person who uses the youth space in the walker hall open to all young people.

St Palladius Sports

2024-09-13  •  No comments  •  St. Palladius Parent Council  •  Garnock Valley

Description

The funds would allow the school to pay for the sports coaches’ expenses to run 2 sessions per week for the next three school terms. These sessions would begin in October and run from 3pm – 4pm.

We wish to continue with the success of the football afterschool club for girls and boys from Primary 5-7, this club would run for the rest of the academic year.  The funds would allow us to pay for transport to take the football team to upcoming tournaments which are organised by North Ayrshire Council Active Schools. We would add to our existing sports kit to allow the children to be identified and part of the team.

We would use some of the fund to pay a netball coach to establish a netball after school club.  Following consultation with the pupils from St. Palladius’ Primary, this was a sport that the children showed a high level of interest in.  Netball tournaments are organised by north Ayrshire council and the funds would enable us to pay for buses in order for the children to attend.

Following the success of the Dance Club last session, the children are very keen to continue this.  The children took part in the Day of Dance last year and we would love to provide this opportunity again.

The school have Young Sports Leaders who have responsibility for promoting physical activity in the playground.  The children undertook training in playground games and have requested playground equipment in order to fully engage all the children in the school.  The fund would be used to purchase this equipment. The children will work closely with North Ayrshire’s Active Schools Coordinator to successfully deliver their lunchtime club, which will run each day for the rest of the academic year.

Physical and mental health and wellbeing is always at the heart of St. Palladius’ agenda.  Afterschool sports clubs are an excellent way to engage children in physical activity and improve their health and mental well-being.  Exposing children to sports and physical activity in an afterschool environment encourages them to explore the sport in the community and strengthens the pathways into the sport.  It is hoped that that the afterschool club will encourage more children to participate in sport and thus increase their physical fitness.  Due to the cost of living crisis, after school clubs are the only opportunity that some children have to participate in sports.

Through this fund we wish to improve aspects of fitness, and develop personal and interpersonal skills and attributes.  We want to enable learners to develop the concepts and skills necessary for participation in a wide range of physical activity, sport and outdoor learning and enhance their physical wellbeing in preparation for leading a fulfilling, active and healthy lifestyle.

The school’s Young Sports Leaders (Primary 6 and 7 pupils) are involved in this application through providing their opinion on the after-school clubs they wish to have established. The have selected the equipment needed for their lunchtime ‘Playground Games’ club.

Band Factory Case Study

Band Factory - Beith Trust

2024-09-11  •  No comments  •  Aileen Miller  •  Garnock Valley

The Band Factory project offers 20 young people from the Garnock Valley a unique opportunity to come together at Geilsland Estate for a full week of music-making and collaboration. Over the course of the week, participants form bands and practice together, with access to a wide range of instruments and equipment to help them learn and perform. Whether they're complete beginners or more experienced musicians, they have the chance to try new instruments, improve their skills, and explore different styles of music.

Each band is supported by an experienced tutor who guides them through rehearsals, helping them perform well-known songs while also pushing them to try new material that takes them out of their comfort zones. The project isn’t just about music—it’s also about building friendships, reducing feelings of loneliness, and growing in confidence through shared experiences.

At the end of the week, all the bands take to the stage for a live performance in front of an audience of friends, family, and the local community, showcasing their hard work and progress. It's an exciting and rewarding experience that leaves participants with a sense of achievement and memories that last long after the final performance.

This grant will be put towards tutor costs, for 3 music tutors to support 3 bands of young people. The music Tutors will be provided by PRYDE in Kilwinning-

tutor cost per hour - £25.00 x 5 hours per day = £125

cost of 3 tutors per day - £375

cost of music tuition for the full week - £1875

Garnock Valley Boxing for kids

2024-09-13  •  No comments  •  Kaz  •  Garnock Valley

The boxing club in Garnock Valley Fitness Centre has been well established for over 20 years and is a registered charity.  The trainers and coaches are made up entirely of volunteers which means that the small training fee charged is reinvested in the club for the benefit of the young people. The fees cover the costs of licences, overheads and equipment. However in order to ensure that fees are affordable for the young people this means that funds can run short for equipment. We are therefore looking for funds to purchase mats. Rubber flooring is the best for boxing gyms as it provides a durable surface and is long lasting. Currently we have mats that cover some of the gym area but as membership expands more of the hall area is used but is uncovered.

Boxing for young people helps to build skills and strengths in confidence, resiliance, self-confidence, ethics and values and healthy living.

Boxing isn't just about throwing punches. Boxing can teach kids the virtue of non-violence. The ring is the only place they can use their boxing skills or they run the risk of loosing their licence. They'll learn about their body, it's capability and limits. They'll engage with their mind, body and spirit. Self-confidence is improved as they learn by their mistakes, face challenges, overcome doubt and improve their technique. Comradeship is gained when the young people train together, spar and compete. They will learn to respect each other.

Boxing has many benefits for young people.

40 mats x £35 = £1400 (club will meet the rest of the costs)

Dalry Parent Council - Uniform Swap Shop

2024-09-12  •  No comments  •  alysonmiller38  •  Garnock Valley

We are aiming to tackle the cost of living crisis by adding to the items in our shop, which is open to all parents and carers of Dalry Primary pupils. The project will be a continuation of our current swap shop, however funds will allow us to be more resourceful and efficient at filling all requests and referrals that come through.  We are looking to fund clothing in sizes that we don't currently have and winter items such as hats, gloves and tights.

The cost of living crisis is still affecting a lot of local families and this helps to lessen that by offering free uniforms to families in need.  Referrals are dealt with in the strictest of confidence, to ensure trust and reduce any fear or anxiety about asking for help.  As well as referrals, the uniforms are put out at school events and parents night for anyone to help themselves.

We get donations from parents and carers throughout the year, however we don't have all sizes or requests available and we want to ensure we can help anyone in need.  All donations are washed before being passed on.

Wearing a uniform gives children a sense of pride, self-confidence and a feeling of belonging.  It also eliminates the pressures on students to wear expensive and trendy clothing to fit in with peers, therefore keeps everyone the same and easily identifiable!

We estimate £1000 would be a brilliant start to allow us to stock sizes and items that we don't currently have, adding to clothing donations that we collect in from the community at parents nights and school events.  A breakdown of the £1000 spend would be:

Fleeces = £17 x 10 = £170

Poloshirts: £10 x 20 = £200

Jumpers: £14 x 20 = £280

Trousers:£7 x 15 = £105

Skirts:£7 x 15 = £105

Hats: £6 x 10 = £60

Gloves:£3 x 10 = £30

Tights: £5 x 10 = £50

Dalry Parent Council - we love supporting our young people, school and wider community!
