Summary
The Band Factory project, run by Beith Trust, is a music programme for young people aged 12-18. It takes place over a week during the school holidays, where participants form bands, learn to play instruments, and practise popular songs. With help from experienced musicians, the young people rehearse and prepare to perform covers of well-known songs. At the end of the week, they put on a live performance for family, friends, and the community.Description
The Band Factory project offers 20 young people from the Garnock Valley a unique opportunity to come together at Geilsland Estate for a full week of music-making and collaboration. Over the course of the week, participants form bands and practice together, with access to a wide range of instruments and equipment to help them learn and perform. Whether they're complete beginners or more experienced musicians, they have the chance to try new instruments, improve their skills, and explore different styles of music.
Each band is supported by an experienced tutor who guides them through rehearsals, helping them perform well-known songs while also pushing them to try new material that takes them out of their comfort zones. The project isn’t just about music—it’s also about building friendships, reducing feelings of loneliness, and growing in confidence through shared experiences.
At the end of the week, all the bands take to the stage for a live performance in front of an audience of friends, family, and the local community, showcasing their hard work and progress. It's an exciting and rewarding experience that leaves participants with a sense of achievement and memories that last long after the final performance.
This grant will be put towards tutor costs, for 3 music tutors to support 3 bands of young people. The music Tutors will be provided by PRYDE in Kilwinning-
