Project code: 597

Estimated Price

£1,000

Project Summary

As a school with over 1200 pupils, we would like to be able to offer a nutritious breakfast before school begins to help with the cost of living crisis.

Project Description

Our project would help ensure a child has a healthy meal before attending a full school day. This will help pupils to focus and improve their learning. Also with the cost of living crisis, pupils may not be able to afford a healthy meal, so this project would allow us to provide this for them. A grant of £1000 would allow us to budget for provision of cereal bars, fruit and juice. Breakfast club will also be closely monitored by staff and pupil volunteers.

Project update: North Ayrshire Council operated a Winter Warmer scheme with free provision of hot food to pupils from Monday 4th November 2024 until Friday 28th March 2025. Thereafter, we used your grant to fund and operate a daily free breakfast club from 31st March until 6th June. Results from a school survey carried out on 20th June: 98% of participants agreed that the Breakfast Club has healthy choices available, 46% agreed that the Breakfast Club helps them learn better 100% agreed that the Breakfast Club is good because it is free 63% agreed that the Breakfast Club gives them the first thing they eat in the morning, 65% agreed that the Breakfast Club helps them attend school, 95% agreed that the Breakfast Club gives them a good start to the day.
