Summary

Description

We have created a new Table Tennis Club for Largs and the local north coast and Cumbrae area, that will benefit the whole community, irrespective of age, ability and health. We run an open-to-all group session with activities for all abilities and ages. We have had attendance from ages 6 months to 93yrs! We offer FREE sessions for those under 18yrs. Our project is to hire or train our members to coach and train players. Our project will pay for attendance at accredited courses to develop players of all ages, through fun table tennis based activities.

Amount requested: £705

Attendance at Tennis Scotland's Coaching Level 1 course in Edinburgh, for 3 people including travel expenses. Course fee £135, course is on two days but separated by several weeks so there will be double travel expenses, estimated at £50 per visit, per person. £135+£100= £235 per person x 3 people = £705. Shared travel will reduce the costs, any reduced cost saving will be utilised for other training activities.

Location: Largs

Proposed on behalf of: Largs enjoys a state of the art sports facility in the town however there is not a lot of choice for local people in the community to enjoy a social sport such as table tennis that is easy to learn and has known health benefits through activity, mental agility and socialisation. There is already a table tennis club in Largs which attracts 20-25 players during each session, however this is only available to players over the age of 50. Our club is open to all ages and to encourage everyone we only charge £5 for the two hours session and we have made it FREE for under 18s. Our committee are all volunteers, your grant will enable formal training for three members. The formal level 1 session coaching qualification run by Tennis Scotland will allow us to better plan session to encourage fitness, wellbeing and socialisation through table tennis. We may also find a new Scottish Champion!

It is a fun way to exercise. Great to be in a club with people of all ages. Having qualified coaches will be of great benefit to all players.
