For example:
- you would like opportunities to learn more about nature, like guided walks
- you would like safer, well maintained walking routes to help you explore local wildlife places and enjoy nature
We need this stretch of coastline and Holy Isle to be included in the North Ayrshire Council Local Landscape Plan ASAP!
Kings Cross is the perfect location for people to come and bask in tranquil nature. Bat walks, badger spotting, nature spotting in the Bay and on Holy Isle, foraging, forest bathing. We have won recognition for candidate Local Landscape Status which must be enacted in its entirety. The community is already starting to plan more public events celebrating the magic of King's Cross - such as beach cleans and community picnics. There is scope to extend this programme if we can obtain the right support. eg Bioblitz events, maintenance of verges and common areas and footpaths, extensions and augmentations to the footpath network etc.
Confirming our Local Landscape Status will further preserve our area and as a local community group, Friends of Kings Cross can work with local landowners including Forestry and Land Scotland to enhance our footpath network, enabling more areas and viewpoints to be opened up for walkers.
Respect from government organisations , STOP FLS . North Ayrshire should adopt the candidate Local Landscape Plan for Lamlash Bay and Holy Isle NOW.
I would like to see North Ayrshire Council work with local volunteer groups to help increase biodiversity, and to put in protections from future threats. Many people on Arran have invested heavily in setting up a life in this unique landscape and are prepared to give their time and expertise to ensure we leave a legacy for future generations. The old ways of allowing inappropriate development in fragile areas needs to consigned to history. By working in partnership we can achieve so much more.
Designate Lamlash Bay, Holy Isle, and the whole coastline from Clauchlands to Kings Cross point and round to Whiting Bay as a protected area, with no exclusions nor exceptions for industrial use, now and for the future.
It would be lovely if the NT Rangers had the capacity to spend some time in and around King's Cross and/or to consider using King's Cross as somewhere to deliver guided walks. There are many talented people on Arran who are experts in their field (foragers, environmentalists, botanists, herbalists etc) all of whom could be invited/encouraged to run guided walks here as they already do in several other locations on Arran.
