  • Reducing the library opening times to once a week will limit the times that I can use the library. Although I usually go to the library on a Tuesday after school with my daughter, it is beneficial to have another day when I can go and return/borrow book, especially when I have something on on a Tuesday.
We also utilise the library on both days during the summer holidays, so removing the Friday will impact us during these times.

Looking at your statistics you can clearly see that the library is used mainly when the kids get out of school on a Tuesday, not only giving them access to materials to advance their leaning but also a place to go socially with their friends to draw, craft and read. Rather than removing the Friday opening times, perhaps it would be more beneficial to move to a later slot when the children are finishing school. This would give the opportunity for those children who can’t attend on a Tuesday, to attend on a Friday instead.

    • I am not in support of the proposed changes. The reason Tuesday is the busiest day is due to it being the only option for school children to use the library. What about all the children who cannot make use of the library on a Tuesday? Are we just disregarding them? Fairlie has more children and families than ever with the new development and yet services are being reduced/taken away. Children are the future and by not making the library readily available after school will have a huge impact on their learning. I suggest rather than opening one day a week, open 2 days a week but have after school times available on both days!
