I am disabled. I live in the country and have no access to transport (public). I am elderly. I rely on the library for social interaction. I live on my own. My group tell me that I make regular and worthwhile contributions to the discussions about books read.
Closing 2 days will be a loss to the community who use this safe space for a warm and welcoming environment. A loss to community groups, helping prevent isolation and loneliness. It will reduce access to the internet, preventing those without home internet to access job sites and training workshops that support learning and social connection. This will have far reaching consequences not just to individuals but to the entire community
In regards to my family, specifically, my husband and I share 1 car so it is incredibly difficult to drive to other towns and visit other libraries. Also, the cost of public transport rules this out as a viable option too. I'm sure other families and library users will also agree with this. Dalry Library is a valuable community resource and whilst I understand that cuts need to be made, the current proposal effectively means that my family will no longer be able to use the library and all the social and educational benefits that come with that.
My youngest attends Dalry Early Years nursery. One of the attendance patterns offered to parents in Dalry is 2.5 days per week - all day Monday all day Tuesday and Wednesday am. As a working parent, these are also the days/hours I work. The proposed changes (no library opening on a Thursday and Friday in Dalry) will mean that I will no longer be able to bring my child to the library to borrow books, to attend Bookbug sessions and to help support her early liberacy skills. This will also impact other families who have the same nursery attendance pattern in Dalry as well as part-time workers who work the first half of the week. In addition, the proposal to open on Wed & Sat mornings, alternative weeks, is certain to cause confusion for everyone, especially busy families and the elderly. No-one will remember/know which weeks the library is available.
I enjoy reading and changing hours means I'll go to charity shops or buy a book. I'm in a craft club on a Friday and changing days might not suit me. Alternative weeks will be confusing as I'm an OAP. Dalry is a small library and you not save much money by closing you will still need staff for cover for sickness and holidays. The library will get damp if it is closed. What about the children and computer users? If you want to save money buy paperback books and not hardback which are very heavy to carry for an OAP. Opening Wednesday afternoon would be silly people are used to library being closed.
On days the library is closed the difficulties of getting to another library (public transport is a problem) What will happen to the groups and organisations that use the library on a regular basis? What will happen about the summer activities for children? The library in Dalry is in the centre of the town and is accessible to everybody. The last changed impacted on me badly as I really used the late night opening as I worked.
Having stopped driving following a stroke, my opportunities to visit library are more limited now. I need to visit library when at town centre for shopping etc.

This would be a problem for working people as the only time they would probably be able to sue the library would be every 2nd Saturday. The every 2nd Wednesday/Saturday would be a problem as people would not which week was open. The library has always been closed on a Wednesday so do not see benefit of opening on a Wednesday

Opening on alternative Saturdays would make it much harder for me to access the service. I have only recently rediscovered my love of reading after many years. The library has helped me find that enjoyment again. It gives me time to relax, switch off and has a positive effect on my wellbeing. If the library is closed on the days I am available, I may be unable to borrow or return books when needed which could discourage me from continuing with my recently discovered hobby. The library is an essential resource for people of all ages.
