I use the library regularly. Coming in not only for books and activities, but also as a social outing. Being able to meet and chat to people here is very important to my health and well being. It's a community hub where I can find out about local information and events, it keeps me connected. The changes will prevent this connection/activity/ outing and will have a negative impact on my well-being and feeling connected to my neighbourhood.
I would, of course, prefer that the library keeps its present opening hours, but I understand the reasons for the cut backs, although I think there is more than one way to reduce costs - you have been extremely severe. Let's take a look for instance the closures on Thursday and Friday. I can handle Thursday but Friday is the day I stock up on books for the weekend, I am sure many others do too.
With regard to the 2 half day Wednesday - on alternate weeks- you really should have a closer look at the age group you are serving. I like many others who frequent the library I do not have the memory capacity we had a good few years ago - I will be 85 this year and while I am pleased with the way I am managing at the moment I know I would struggle to remember which Wednesday I was due to go to the library. Perhaps a schedule similar to the one you issue for the bin collection would be be beneficial.

We use the Bookbug with our baby and are concerned that this will be stopped as it is the only club in the town we use.
I'm writing this on behalf of my mother who has used the library for many years in Dalry. There is no way my mother will be able to remember which days the library is open or shut! She is struggling to remember and process information: a library should be open on a regular consistent basis for all its community. Members of the public will become frustrated and stop coming. This is so short sighted.
Firstly, I think it's a disgrace and a disappointment to the small community to close the library for half the week. It feels like the first stage of it going completely.
I use the library with my son we come to read in the library, use the craft group and generally give us something positive to do together that doesn't cost as currently I can't work as my son has severe learning needs. I don't like the idea of losing days but with the proposed hours it feels very inconsistent. My son likes routine and this might impact how we can use the library. Sad to see these changes to a small community.
I come every Friday to the library although I don't take books out I enjoy the community space speaking with the staff, using wifi. The new days I will never remember what weeks its Saturday and Wednesday. I'll need to find a new community space to visit. Saddened to see the decline of Dalry. less for families to access.

A consistent weekly schedule would make it easier for nurseries, schools, families and community groups to plan visits and events in advance. Alternating weeks are likely to cause confusion and make it difficult to establish the regular library visits that are so valuable for young children’s development. We hope every effort can be made to maintain accessible and consistent library opening hours so the local children can continue to benefit from the valuable opportunities Dalry Library provides during these crucial early years.
As a local early years nursery, Dalry Library is an important part of our children’s learning and development. We regularly visit the library, where the children enjoy choosing books, listening to stories, & taking part in activities that foster a lifelong love of reading. These visits also support communication, language development, confidence, curiosity, & social skills, all of which are fundamental during the early years. The proposed reduction in library opening hours would make it much more difficult for us to continue these regular visits. Organising outings for young children requires careful planning around staffing, meal times, & daily routines. Limited or inconsistent opening hours reduce the flexibility we need & could result in our children missing out on valuable learning experiences within their local community. It would also impact families who visit the library outside nursery hours, reducing opportunities to continue Children’s learning & enjoyment of books at home.
