To encourage young people between the ages of 8-17 to participate in the sport of indoor bowls. It is hoped as well as fostering new friendships within the community, it will develop and enhance both physical and mental well-being.
Description
The focus of the project will be on group participation; skill development, including eye/hand coordination; improving communication; enhancing self esteem; as well as providing fun and encouragement in a safe and friendly environment. It is also intended to provide a hot meal to the young people attending.
While some equipment is already available, the ages of the participants means that there will be some costs incurred in the provision of equipment for the bowling sessions, including suitable sized bowls and training aids (£350). Additionally, privacy screens will be required for changing areas to ensure their safety and protection (£200). Their will also be cost involved in the provision of food (£450).
The Club members will be committing their time on a voluntary basis.
Location: Ardrossan Indoor Bowling Club. This is the only facility in the whole of North Ayrshire. Bowls is no longer viewed as a pastime of retirees and their is a real endeavour to encourage people to join the sport at the earliest opportunity. There are a number of outstanding young bowlers at the club and this project hopes to encourage those already involved to remain in the sport and progress successfully through the relevant age groups while encouraging new youngsters to become involved. The idea of the providing a hot meal is not only to ensure that the children don’t miss out on meals due to their involvement but to encourage awareness of the importance of healthy eating and living.
