Summary

Scottish Sports Futures (SSF) are looking to apply for additional funds to support the ongoing delivery of our Active2Grow programme in partnership with the Ghillie Dhu Project. The Active:2:Grow programme currently supports care experienced young people through mental health and wellbeing provision. However, as this project only currently funds staff costs, this is in desperate need of additional resources to support the young people which it engages with on a weekly basis.

The funds applied for will contribute directly towards additional resources for the young people, allowing us to further provide much needed wellbeing support for children most in need.

These resources will include winter giftbags and wellbeing boxes for all young people attending the sessions, a sports kitbag and a ‘broadening horizon activity’. This activity will consisted of encouraging young people to take on new experiences, build their confidence/resilience, and widen their support networks within their local communities.

These funds will allow us to provide resources to some of the young people most in need on this support across the locality, ensuring that we can continue to provide tailored and person-centred mental health and wellbeing support, while also building closer connections to the wider communities.

Location: Scottish Sports Futures (SSF) uses the power of sport and physical activity to engage with vulnerable and disadvantaged young people aged 10-25 and empower them to be confident, healthy, and happy with improved mental health. We believe that every young person should fulfil their potential, and to achieve this we focus on developing people, improving health and wellbeing, and strengthening communities. We combat the effects of living in poverty and buffer against the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences and trauma by delivering a range of trauma informed and person-centred youth work and sport programmes. We provide effective interventions, improving life chances for young people and their families with love, care, and empathy. Our programmes involve significant partnership working to support young people most at risk, and we position ourselves within the heart of the community, ensuring we fully understand the severity and need within. We do not rely solely on statistics to tell us about poverty, adversity and the wellbeing of our young people. We take a genuine place-based approach to understand this and see the harsh reality of what living in a household in the highest 10% of deprivation is. We work to combat the effects of living in poverty and buffer against trauma and adversity. Focused in the most challenged communities, we are privileged to work alongside exceptional young people and support them to reach a positive destination.
