Description
The pupils at St Peter’s Primary School are learning how to grow their own food and how to cook with it.
The aim is for the pupils to grow their owns plants in the school’s polytunnel, harvest them and then cook recipes with the food they have grown.
The children will be taught the importance of good nutrition and being healthy. They will also be encouraged to think about the cost of different foods, packaging and recycling, and where in the world ingredients grow and how they’re transported.
Parents and carers will also be invited in to the school to take part in these activities.
Teaching the children and their families how to prepare fresh, healthy food is a skill that can be used inside and outside the classroom and is something that will last a lifetime.
A new STEM/cookery room has been created within the school, which is where the cooking classes will take place. The funding will equip the room with different equipment and ingredients.
The funding would be spent as follows:
Cooking utensils: £100
Pantry ingredients and seeds: £70
Fridge: £250
Aprons for pupils: £180
Storage equipment: £400
Location: The St Peter's Parent Council is a group of parents/carers whose children attend St Peter's Primary School and Early Years Centre. We represent the views of all parents in the school, grow school funds through fundraising and grant applications, contribute to the school vision and help to improve planning for learning and teaching.
